A TMI question about potty training and poop
My DD just became potty trained 3 weeks ago. She's been doing great, and even willing started pooping on the potty. Before potty training she would usually poop at least once a day in her diaper. Now all of a sudden she's going 3 or 4 days between bowel movements. And in between she'll keep saying she has to poop throughout the day, and she'll run to the potty, sit down, then pop right back up and say "never mind, I don't have to poop" but I know she must since it's been days. She doesn't cry and refuse to sit on the potty , she does try, just changes her mind so quickly. And she hasn't been asking for a diaper or going in her diaper that I put on her for sleeping. She just simply has been acting like she doesn't have to go. What can I do to help her? I've been giving her prunes and other fruit, extra water mixed with juice. I hate for her to develop a negative association with using the toilet since she's letting It get to the point that it's painful for her to go. If your child went through a phase like this how long did it last? And what helped them get over it? Thanks.

A TMI question about potty training and poop
My DS did the same thing when we started training. He would go 4 days between poops. I started a reward system for him so he had motivation to go everyday. I made a chart and every time he pooped he got a train sticker. Once he got 3 stickers he got a new train. It was a big reward but he needed an incentive. I think he was afraid of pooping on the potty so he would avoid it for as long as possible. Once he realized he could earn something for going he started going everyday and still does without any reward. I also did a "whole bag" of M&Ms when he would poop. They were the snack packs so only a few in it anyway and I would take a few out.

A TMI question about potty training and poop
My guess is that she is scared even though she's not crying etc. just encourage without forcing. She will be fine since she is going. The more she goes the more comfortable she will be.

Thanks. I'm thinking she might be scared too. Its just strange since she doesn't really show signs of being scared. Whenever she does finally go, she runs right in and willingly goes on the potty without a fight. She even surprised me once and had gone all by herself on the potty when I was in another room, So I didn't even have to encourage her or anything . but then she'll go days without going again. There is sometimes a little blood when I wipe her, so maybe it is painful for her

I might try going back to rewarding her. I had been doing that at first, but she seemed to lose interest and had stopped asking for her sticker, so I had stopped giving them. I have tried bribing her with the promise of getting to do something extra fun or special, but she just insists she doesn't have to go right now.
