oh man, there is a bit of a free for all in his room. We have a small bookshelf, and most of them are up on there, but we have a fair amount piled up on his floor... He's only 9 months but loves when we read to him, and he loves to "read" his books, he picks them up turns the pages, looks at the pictures, etc.... he'll crawl across the room to get to his books.

I have a shelf with baskets filled with books so DD can take them out and put them away herself.

We have a bookshelf in the living room. All books are on lower shelves so that kids can get books & put them away. We have a ton of books!

Re: how do you store your kid's books?
DD is turning 3 this month and already has over 300 books (and we have a 1 bedroom apartment) so I definitely needed places to put them!
I bought this cool 4 sided library and DH attached a lazy susan spinner to it so she can just turn in easily rather than finding a spot that can accommodate all 4 sides. here is the link: http://www.toysrus.com/buy/bookcases/4-sided-library-2413116
It's jammed packed full, doesn't hold half the books. So then we have these pink rolling bins i got at target, 2 of those are filled with books, one in our bedroom and one in her "area":
We also have shelving on her wall, like a wall bookcase that goes across and she has one full shelf dedicated to books on the bedroom wall.
They are everywhere still because she loves to read. EVERYWHERE. good luck!

We have a standard bookshelf with a few shelves in DS's bedroom, and then this book sling library in his playroom, and a basket of books under the coffee table. Books everywhere!
LINK I like this because you can see all of the covers of the books.

Re: how do you store your kid's books?
Both my sil work for scholastic so we have a ton of books
Each kid has a 4 cube cubby system from ikea with books on it. Then we did this in my DD's closet because it is huge...it's labeled and my big kids are learning to put the books back into categories. http://pinterest.com/pin/222998619020924535/
We also have the ikea spice racks in my youngest'so room and the playroom http://pinterest.com/pin/131308145362847565/
Eta: we also have a wicker bin with a cover in the living room.

Thrown in a corner here and a corner there. Organization is not my strong point. I've learned to make peace with that fact...

Haha! I try to organize, but my son likes your system better!
We have a book shelf where they sit until he rips them all down in 10 seconds or less.

Right now they're stacked spines-up in a big clear plastic storage box with a lid.

We use the 9 cube cubby for her books and toys. She uses the first 3 cubes to stack and stand her books up and then the rest are her toys. Works great and keeps the room super organized.

We have a book nook area in the playroom. I used photo ledges for the books. It doesn't hold nearly all of them though, so we also have bookcases in each child's room. The ledges are nice though since you can see the cover of the book, not the spine. I'll try to find a pic
