HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
My 15 month old DS has always been picky with food, but lately it has gotten out of control. Breakfast used to be the easiest meal. I used to be able to give him pancakes/waffles/french toast with either banana or jar of fruit, but this week he won't even eat that. He used to eat bananas, blueberries, and honeydew, but now won't eat ANY fruit unless it is from a jar. Lunch used to be ok. He would eat a few TJ's brand Ritz with canellini beans, some sliced deli meat, a yogurt, and a few stalks of broccoli, and a yoyo baby yogurt. He won't eat deli meat anymore, and more times than not he throws the broccoli on the floor. He doesn't like cheese. He likes peanut butter, but won't eat jelly so PB & J is out of the question. Dinner is a joke. I never know what he will eat. He used to eat meatballs, but now refuses them. He likes BBQ chicken, but I can't make that every meal.
Has anyone dealt with a picky kid? What did you do? I would like him to eat a healthier, more balanced diet, but he is so picky. I keep trying new foods, but he will chew them and then spit them out. He was evaluated for food therapy by EI (as recommended by my ped), but he didn't qualify. I am seriously so stressed over this!

HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
My 16 month old drives me crazy! She eats fruit, yogurt, grilled cheese, and pasta. She was eating mac and cheese that had peas and she was spitting the, peas, out as she went. I can't.

Re: HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
my 15 month is soooo bad he LOVES his jar food and i keep expanding his foods.
Breakfast is oatmeal and yogurt - i am ok w that Lunch- he thrives his baby food, but i always send that to daycare along w chicken fries or a meatball
Dinner is the same Chicken fries, meatballs, pizza, veggies fries but never enough to satisfy him- he get frustrated and throws the food
so i can completely relate
If he cant pick it up he wont eat it

Re: HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
DS changes his preferences week by week so it's all about trying new things. It's not easy but I try to think about his perspective - he's been in this crazy world for 16 mos and drank formula for every meal his first 6 mos. What are these crazy textures/flavors I'm putting in his mouth? LoL (I try taking the same perspective on his poor sleeping habits but since I'm not sleeping, I'm not quite as patient with that one!)
Anyway, just keep trying new things and if he wants to eat the same thing over and over, so be it! It won't last forever. I wish I could get DS to eat jarred food - would make life easier but that's a no go with him.
Some staples he loves are:
- Fried eggs (yolk only) with melted cheese - Pancakes w syrup - Plain Greek organic yogurt - Raspberries/strawberries - Toast/bread butter - Puffs (just as a random snack) - Mashed banana (sometimes w pb mixed in) - Pizza (on rare occassions) - Mashed potato - Anything with sauce (meatball, pasta, etc).
GL!

Re: HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
I wonder if he's teething? I know my DS changes his eating habits some when he has teeth coming in. That could be why he's wanting the purees more. DS also 15 months is currently getting his molars and the incisors in at the same time and its having an effect on what he's wanting to chew right now.

HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
DS is 15 months and his eating is hit or miss. Some days, he'll eat everything in sight and then the next day he'll only want to nurse. I aim for one good meal a day. If I get more than that, I'm ecstatic!
His "staples"
Berries - all kinds Bananas Veggie pouches Yogurt pouches Gold fish Beans - all kinds Toast with cream cheese and fruit Mac and cheese Pasta with butter Tomatoes (well he loved them last week...) Cheese (pizza, quesadillas)

HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
You are not alone! My almost 15 month old can be very picky! He refuses to eat anything he cannot feed himself and refuses most proteins. I try new things but he rarely eats them. My doctor told me not to give in to him. He says if he is hungry he will eat but I at least give him fruit if he won't eat what I make him. I can't let him go totally hungry.
Some of his staples are:
Fruit( he rarely refuses any fruit) Yogurt smoothies String cheese Cheerios Pizza Tomatoes Grilled zucchini Grilled chicken ( sometimes) Pasta with sauce
I get so frustrated! He won't even eat chicken nuggets or Mac n cheese! I guess I should be happy about that but sometimes that's what is easy.
Good luck! I wish I had some magical solution but know you aren't alone!

HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
My son is picky some days and others will eat anything. He loves using a fork so if I see him being picky I just hand him the fork. Worth trying!

Re: HELP! My toddler is EXTREMELY picky
My dd was and is super picky. Some things that she would eat at that age that haven't been mentioned were pastina in chicken broth or a scrambled egg. Also, since he likes eating soft textures like the fruit in a jar maybe make soup or stew and blend it up. That is how I would get better food into dd-chicken soup, lentil soup, beef stew-all blended up like baby food.
