Sprinkler parks

Tanner park you can pay for the day. Not the greatest but you can park close and there is a bathroom and food right there.

I have been taking my DS there lately. He loves it.

We live right there.

The problem is the amount of people who could give a crap about their kids. It's terrible. There's also lots of young kids with no supervision.

DH got into it a few weeks ago with a couple. The kid was playing with my son and fell and hurt himself. No mother in sight, he pointed her out to DH....way on the other side of the park sunning herself. When addressed, she told DH to go let the father know. He lost his stack by that point and told the dad if neither one cared about their kid, why should he?

I can't imagine that a lot of these people are tax paying residents of the TofB.

It's a shame because it's a nice park and community otherwise.

ITA! I had a similar incident with my 2 year old DD. Another little girl (maybe 3 or 4) pushed her off the baby slide when she wasn't going fast enough. I let the girl know that we have to be patient, take turns, etc and then SHE PUSHED ME.

No parent or sitter in sight. I would be mortified if my child hit anyone, especially another adult.

I also feel bad for the lifeguards who have to police these people. I've seen them go up to the same parents numerous times who often look like kids themselves to remind them to provide supervision. I always do a silent cheer when they finally throw them out. I think a lot of people also walk down from Merrick Rd. to avoid the fee. I understand not having a lot of money but that's not an excuse for poor parenting.

Sprinkler parks

I love Bay park in East Rockaway. It's small and fenced in, there is a bathroom right next to it, a picnic area next to it, and 3 beautifully kept and huuuge playgrounds that are all fenced in. There are benches for people to sit in the dry area, and a grassy section where you can bring chairs or beach blankets. It's really small but that's the great thing- everyone is mostly with their kids and on top of their kids.
Occasionally some older kids without parents just run in for a quick spray and they leave. It never bothered me.

ETA: it's free.

We love this one.

The price above does not include parking at the marina for non residents. So you would have to pay to park in addition to the sprinkler park admission.

Re: Sprinkler parks

It's kind of unclear there, for shipwreck cove non-resident is $12 per person right? It's just weird that the two lines above specify and that one doesn't.

It's free for kids up until they turn 4. You also have to pay for parking if you don't have a rec card.
