Would you contribute to this camp gift?
My son is attending a few weeks of camp at a private school near our home. On the third day of camp, the school asked for a contribution for the camp counselors. The cost of the camp is already double that of our other camps this summer.
Would you contribute to this gift? How much is appropriate to contribute?
About half the kids are kids who attend the private school during the regular school year. Other kids attend the camp for all or most of the summer. Then there are kids like my son who attend the camp 1-3 weeks during the summer.
I drop off and pick up via kiss and ride so I don't even know any of the teachers.

I would contribute to the gift bc the counselors are usually young kids and rely on tips. They usually don't get much of an hourly wage bc tips are factored in. Did they tell u a recommended amount? I'm not sure how much you should give but I would definitely give something.

What is the gift and amount? My DDs are in camp for 6 weeks and I will prob give $20 to each main counselor and 10 to a few others. It's adds up quick.

I would contribute. Even for pricey camps, it's customary to tip counsellors (some even have tipping built into the cost).

Re: Would you contribute to this camp gift?
I would contribute only because I've worked at a camp and know how that goes. As a counselor, I got paid close to nothing at all and it was a LOT of work. We relied on those tips at the end of Summer and it was very upsetting when some parents didn't participate in that. It sucks that it works that way though since, like you said, you ARE already paying a large sum as is. but contributing anything at all is better than nothing.

I would contribute but not as much as kids who go for the whole summer. I'm not sure how much because my kids don't go to camp yet. Ask other moms at the camp. They'll tell you.

My kids attended camp four four weeks. The camp runs for eight weeks. They give out a recommended tip sheet for eight weeks. I gave half the recommended amount.

Tip. Even though the camp is pricey, I'm sure the counselors get paid very little. I have worked for a "prestigious" camp on the island and got paid peanuts. It was always nice to get a tip and feel appreciated.
