Walmart sells car seat to prevent hot car deaths
I wish this would become standard in all car seats. With all this in the news I had a dream I left my daughter in the car seat - it still haunts me.

Agreed! It only works if you choose to purchase a seat with this added feature and I'd expect that feature to be pricier.

I hope it's required for all new car seats manufactured too. Hopefully eventually it will be.

I took a webinar course for my technician certification last week where this seat was front and center!
Evenflo is hoping to have this technology expand on to all of their seats (especially the ones that rear face) in the near future. There's a lot of reasons that Walmart was the chosen retailer to have this seat and not a different store like babies r us or buy buy baby.
there is a transmitter that goes into the port that is used for the emissions portion of your yearly car inspection. when the chest clip is engaged and the car is moving at over 5mph for more then 30 seconds, the transmitter will sound a series of beeps alerting the driver that there is communication between the two. When the car is turned off, there will be another series of beeps that will alert the driver, potentially reminding them that the child is in the car.
If installed and used correctly this can be a potentially lifesaving device.

The OBD-II port became a mandated standard for all US cars in 1996, so almost all cars have that port available. That's a creative way of tapping into the car's system without any rewiring. The port is very accessible.

I think it's a great start. It's only available right now in an infant seat.
Also, this will help people who forget their child is in the car but it won't help those who choose to leave their kid to run in to the store for a "minute" which seems like is more common than forgetting.
