If you have ever rented a car with a car seat, was the car seat gross?

Planning to rent a car with car seats in Orlando.

If anyone has rented a car in Orlando, I'd appreciate recommendations.

We rented a carseat in Florida (not Orlando) but it was extremely clean!

My BFF rented a convertible seat at the Orlando airport and it was clean.

However, I personally am not a fan of renting carseats if you have one that you can bring. Why? Well because you have NO idea how the carseat has been treated by previous people that rented it. They could have spilled something and tried to use a harsh cleaner (that could degrade the straps or the plastic, making it dangerous). They could have been in an accident and not thrown away. Anything.

We ended up purchasing the $39 Cosco Scenera (which is listed I think as the #3 convertible seat) to travel with. It's very light and not too cumbersome. We didn't want to travel with our big Britax. It doesn't have tons of padding, but for a week in Disney, it served it's purpose and now it's our backup seat.

Also, I think it was cheaper to buy the $39 seat than it would have been to rent a seat.

We rented a car seat in Puerto Rico and it was gross. I sat in the back with her to make sure she didn't touch anything or put anything in her mouth, but it was really nasty.

The seat I got from Hertz was fine but I would NOT be doing it again.

Renting the seat cost me half as much as renting the car itself and I only had it for 3-4 days!!! :P

If you're down there for a week, I would recommend getting a Sit n Stroll or a wheeling frame from One Step Ahead for your regular carseat and avoid wasting money on the carseat rental.

We've rented a mini van in Orlando and went out to the car to see a disgusting car seat. We went right back in and complained and they let us have our pick of what they had there. Nothings brand new but we were happy with what we put her in.

I've rented them with no problems

we usually use Hertz and if you are a AAA member there is no charge to rent the car seat.

Baby gear checks for free, so we usually just check our car seats. Yes, its more to deal with, but you know it is safe and where it has been. We've also purchased a cheaper carset just for travel and also to have as an extra for grandparents etc when we need it.

We've rented cars with car seats several times. the seats have always been clean.

We rent car seats when we travel, our UK car seats aren't legal to use in the US, and I would not lug a car seat on an international flight. They are usually fine, nice and clean. Like they have just been dry cleaned. I never had a bad experience, and even though its expensive, the check in buy usually cuts us a deal in one way or another.
