how does using a travel agent work

they book for you and get paid through the resort?

how does using a travel agent work

Travel agents earn commission from car companies, hotels and resorts. They don't charge a service fee for their service. However, there are service fees attached to airline tickets, which is standard across the board.

Travel agencies often have perks for great things like resort/cruise upgrades and special rates that aren't available online for cars, hotels, cruises and resorts. By selling these properties often, they get a bulk-type discount. We also get to know the properties and their reputations (as well as people who work there)
Sometimes, we even got to go to the resort for an overnight stay to experience the property so we could represent it to our clients. Every time a new ship came into NYC we were able to check it out too.
There's something about a human touch that a computer just can't match.

Re: how does using a travel agent work

I don't know the details of the kind of trip you are planning but we used Apple vacations for our all inclusive. I have no patience for travel websites and we had specific criteria that we wanted met (direct flights at normal hours, budget). I don't know how they get paid but they are not an agent. We got a very good price for what we are getting.
