Whooping Cough Vaccine given during pregnancy
At my last DR's visit, my OB gave me a script and told me he wanted me to get the whopping cough vaccine at my next appt. I'll be 32 weeks.
I don't mind getting the vaccine myself, but was alittle nervous about having it while I was pregnant. I just called my pediatrician and she told me she hasn't heard anything negative about getting the vaccine while pregnant and I should do it.
For those of you that have delivered recently were you given the vaccine whole pregnant?
I remember when I had DS 3 years ago, it was only offered to me in the hospital after I had given birth.

I had dd June 2013 and I had it in the hospital after she was born.
Some Drs like to do it while pregnant bc supposedly baby will get the anti bodies in utero
Edited to add I am 31 weeks and my dr has not mentioned getting it while pregnant

Yes I had it while pregnant with my second. The recommendation has changed to give the newborn some protection bc cases are on the rise due to those who don't vaccinate at all.

They are now recommending to have it during your 3rd trimester as the most recent studies show that the antibodies pass on to the baby, helping to protect them. I had it done at 32 or 33 weeks. Whooping cough is very active right now, and it is a nasty nasty nasty disease in newborns and infants.

I will be requesting to have it administered in the 3rd trimester this time. I'm not taking any chances.

I got it my first pregnancy and again last week at my 36 week appt with #2.

My doctor said this also during my last pregnancy. Also he said they recommend getting the vaccine during each pregnancy no matter how much time in between.

I was exposed while pregnant, but doctors felt strongly not to give vaccine to me until after giving birth. I got it the day after I delivered. Apparently, baby is safe in utero.

UPDATE: I just had my 32 week appt and before I could even bring it up, my dr asked me about getting it. The recommendation has changed in the two years I had dd and its recommended for all pregnant women to get it I. The third trimester so antibodies can be passed to baby. I got it.

I got it after giving birth in the hospital, when DC were a day or 2 old. The nurses told me that way the baby would get immunity through my breast milk. I'll be honest, and I know this is not a popular opinion on here, but I'd be nervous getting vaccines while pregnant.

Whooping Cough Vaccine given during pregnancy
Whooping cough is covered in the Tdap shot. I got it at my 36 week OB appointment. Most doctors suggest getting it towards the end of your 3rd trimester so that protection passes to the fetus since they won't get their first immunization until around 7-8 weeks I believe.

I'm very surprised at how much doctors push vaccines for pregnant women up north. in three pregnancies, I have never been asked if I wanted a flu shot, whooping cough shot, etc., nor do I know anyone that has been recommended vaccines either. fwiw, I was living in florida at the time.

It's not a north vs south thing, it's a cdc recommendation thing.

How long ago was your last pregnancy. It's definitely a recommendation that has changed in the last year or two.

I wasn't never asked if I wanted a vaccine when I was pregnant either! And I am here in NY.

It's been a couple of years, so you're probably right.
I had dd June 2013 and I was told to get the tdap in the hospital after delivery which is what I did.
Now exactly 2 years later the recommendation has changed and there's new studies that say baby benefits from vaccines in utero and get some antibodies. This time I was asked if I wanted it during third trimester.
