What is the best way to book flights if we want to stop in multiple cities in Europe?
And fly home from a different city than we originally arrive in?

Is there an easy way for me to do this online by myself or do I need a travel agent?

My information may be terribly outdated as it's been a few years since I've been abroad (sigh... damn kids! Chat Icon ) but we used to do what you describe ALL the time, fly into one city and out another. I always did it by myself researching flights on the major travel websites and then booking it directly on the airline's website. For intra-Europe flight I always had the most luck booking with the many discount European carriers on their websites.

If you are looking on Delta.com, you just choose "multi-city" instead of round trip. I'm sure other sites have a similar option.

This is how I do it as well. For inter-Europe flights, look at Ryan Air and Easy Jet.

I use kayak to search. You click multi city. It gives you the best pricing using multiple airlines.
