binky help!!!!

DS, almost 3, bit a hole through his binky. He told me it's broken and to fix it or get another one. I have a back up but he doesn't know that. We've been trying to get rid of the binky for month's now. He is crying for me because he wants a binky and it's killing me. He cries then stops for a few seconds then screams again. Do I just leave him? Do inlay with him to try and get him to sleep? I did lay with him for about 20 minutes to get him to calm down when he first got in bed. But now he is not calm. What do you do when you go cold turkey???

Re: binky help!!!!

The only thing that worked for us was cutting the tip, and even that took time. DD slowly lost interest and it slowly faded out of the picture. Is it possible to evenly cut the tip of your backup and pass it off as the one he bit, and just say you have no more but you can keep this?

So hard and I dread the day. I am militant with dd now that she can only have it for sleeping. She is 2.5 and I am right behind you. I think I would prob let him cry it out. He is aware what happened and that he bit it and it's broken. I would tell him you tried to fix it and if he wants he can hold it to go to sleep and hope it passes within a few nights. Good luck!

Re: binky help!!!!

my dd gave hers up at 2yo but at 3yo was very easily bribed! change focus. if he gives it up he gets something! dd had to go to bed on her own so each night she got a sticker and then at the end of the week we went and got her a necklace.

binky help!!!!

Thanks ladies!! A few minutes after I posted he let out a huge scream and then literally just passed out. I looked at the monitor and he was just laying there with his mouth wide open. I went in and checked on him and boy did he tire himself out! We cut a straight edge on the last binky he bit a hole through and that didn't work. Tonight he went to his room all ready to sleep without it and I told him the binky fairy would leave a present for him. He was ok until it was actually time to lay down. DH stopped on the way home from work and bought him new hot wheels cars. The "binky fairy" left him a note saying she was so proud of him and if he continues through the weekend he'll get the tub of animals he wants from toysrus. I'm very proud of myself for not giving in. I hate hearing him scream and cry like that but the binky is literally starting to affect his pallet so it's time.

Good job! We used the Binky Fairy too just after DD turned 3. Worked like a charm. She did cry for two nights but after that she was good. No more tears. She did ask for it but the crying stopped. Living a binky-free life is soooooo great!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

binky help!!!!

This scares me! This is why at night time he does not get a binky. He can have it during the day at daycare, or at home when he's awake and just needs to suck (which is rare). He's still only 4 &1/2 months but I don't want him to get used to it at night for bed. I remember it was so hard with my sister, she was 3 & 1/2 and it was so difficult, she was still on bottles too, oh man, so hard.

binky help!!!!

It's a good time and transition to end it. We finally took it at 3 years old and it took a good week for no tears with naps and night sleep. He was very attached.

Re: binky help!!!!

Thanks everyone! he only asked for the binky once yesterday. And while my twins were at preschool, he usually naps, he wanted to nap in my bed with me. So I laid with him for a bit and he asked for the binky once. I asked him if he remembers it's broken and the binky fairy took it and he said yes. he didnt' ask for it again but he also didn't nap and was kinda miserable yesterday. Bedtime was rough. He screamed and cried for me. He didn't ask for the binky once though. I went in and soothed him a few times but everytime I did he stood up and clung to me for dear life to take him downstairs. So of course i couldn't stand hearing him like that and I took him downstairs. I gave him some warm milk and DH brought him back up and rubbed his back for a bit and he fell asleep. Hopefully he naps and he goes to bed a little easier tonight.

Yeah it'll take time but it sounds like you are almost over the hump.

Did anyone ever see that YouTube video of the parents who tied the binky to balloons and released the balloons and told the girl she was a big girl now and didn't need the binky anymore so they were sending it up to heaven for the angels to give the new babies being born??

IT WAS SO CUTE.

She waved as the binky flew up to the sky! OMG Chat Icon
