When did your DC start using "real" toothpaste
DD uses an oragel training toothpaste that is for up to age 4. I'm not sure how good these really clean the teeth though I am afraid she swallows the toothpaste so I'm not sure what else to do. Is baking soda a good idea?

We got her a kids toothpaste with flouride around 4 years old. We made sure she knew how to rinse and spit first

Re: When did your DC start using "real" toothpaste
if she is only 2 the training toothpaste is fine, it is designed so that if they do swallow a little it is not harmful, at that age my girls brushed themselves but then I helped them also to make sure they did a good job, I am sure that is good enough

Re: When did your DC start using "real" toothpaste
Just last year the AAP started recommended flouride toothpaste as soon as teeth come in.
I've been brushing DS's teeth with water at naptime and with a grain of rice sized dollop of fluoride toothpaste at night since he was 1.

When did your DC start using
Just switched to flouride after his third birthday, based on the dentist's advice. I made sure he knew how to rinse ("wiggle the water in your mouth") and spit first.

Re: When did your DC start using "real" toothpaste
Does anyone know if we are still supposed to use floride toothpaste if dc is on the floride vitamins? I tried telling someone about this, and they said you still shouldn't use floride toothpaste if dc takes the vitamin. But I don't really believe half the things this person says...

Re: When did your DC start using "real" toothpaste
Based on aap guidelines and her dentist's rec, we started at age 2, because there's a history of tooth issues in the family. I use barely a smear (maybe grain of rice sized if that).

When did your DC start using
I don't and won't ever use flouride toothpaste. We use Jack and Jill's. Eventually I'll switch her to Jason's which is what I use sometimes.

Re: When did your DC start using "real" toothpaste
Fluoride is a neurotoxin - DS does not use a fluoride and neither do we. I highly suggest Tom's of Maine for Kids. We do not give a fluoride vitamin either.
