Disney Polynesian
We just booked disney for May 6th-12th at the Polynesian. It's our first time with three kids, 6, 4 and 1! I'm thrilled we have the monorail, but never stayed here before so any tips? Can we see fireworks from the hotel?
TIA!

Re: Disney Polynesian
You have to go down to the beach to see the fireworks in full but its worth it! A great thing about the poly is that if you want to go to the ttc you don't have to take the full monorail ride all the way around. You can actually walk there it's about a 5-10 min walk and def worth it so you don't have to stand around and wait for the monorail.
Def eat at ohana! And go to kona cafe for the tonga toast!
Enjoy!

Re: Disney Polynesian
Great thank you!
We did get a reservation at Ohana, and I just saw something about that tonga toast today, it looked delicious but I had no idea where to get it! We will definitely have to go there too!

Re: Disney Polynesian
I stayed here. Beach is awesome for fireworks viewing!
Try the Pineapple Dole WHIP (ice cream like treat) they sell. And absolutely eat at Ohana for DINNER (not character meal but family fun).
Also really liked the food at the counter service Captain Cook's. Love the adult grilled cheese here!
Awesome location, rooms can be dark and dated but totally worth it.
Also try to get resizes at the Spirit of Aloha luau! Awesome food and show.

Re: Disney Polynesian
You will love Ohana.
Tonga Toast is amazing. You can get tonga toast at both Kona Café and Captain Hooks. You can also get pineapple dole whip at Polynesian. Yum.
You can see the fireworks from the beach.

We were lucky and I guess our room faced the beac b/c we saw the fireworks from our room. And the little water parade taht goes with the fireworks. It's a great location. The character breakfast was great at O'Hana. But I have to say that they sell the same exact food at Caprtain hooks for much less lol. We obviously did it for the character part but the food is really good. We also ate at kina which was great. Don't know about this tonga toast lol. I want to go back lol

The Luau was one of the best things we did on the trip. My 3.5 yo loved it, went on stage to dance with them. It was truly a great show. And the food was some of the BEST we had anywhere.

Just so you are aware, the Poly is undergoing extensive renovations. Right now the pool is closed and demolished and there are construction walls up everywhere. Supposedly they are suppose to be finished by April but who knows. I would call the resort to check. The Poly is a ton of money and if the pool area is not open, I'd stay somewhere else. That being said, if it is completed by that time, it is our favorite resort and really transports you into a different land. Very relaxing and beautiful. Kona cafe is our favorite restaurant and the breakfast there is awesome.

Re: Disney Polynesian
The lava pool and trader Sam's is supposed to open by 3/26. The kiddie pool is supposed to open by 4/1. We are booked for a DVC stay at the new Poly villas at the end of April, and we were told by member services that the pool would definitely be finished by then.
Eta: there will still be construction though. The DVC construction and renovations to the resort itself is supposed to last to the end of 2015.

Great location, however i found the rooms to be horrible. Very dated, dark, dingy. Everything was sticky and smelled mildewy. Had I not won the vacation and Cruise, I'd have been very very disappointed. Hope all the renovations are done by the time you go.

Thanks everyone! My travel agent said the construction will be done except for minor things that won't interrupt our stay, thankfully!
But this makes me nervous.. I don't want the kids and I to end up sick because we are allergic to mildew and mold. Ughh

We stayed at the Poly in Sept. 2013 and loved it! I didn't find the rooms mildewy at all. They are a bit dark but that goes with the wholy Poly theme. The rooms are pretty large compared to other rooms on property. You can't beat the location, that's for sure! We stayed in the Tokelau longhouse but I believe that is being converted to DVC.

Thank you for this! I called my TA and she said that all the rooms have been updated in the last few years so she doesn't see the rooms being a problem! Yay!

We've stayed at the Polynesian twice. It is one of my favorites. It is so convenient to have the monorail to magic kingdom, and to be able to walk to the transportation center for Epcot. We have done the luau twice and the kids loved it. I know a lot of people like Ohana for dinner but I didn't think it was that great. We waited 45 minutes(!) to be seated despite having a reservation, and then my kids didn't like any of the food. It is much better for breakfast (food is served family style, so you don't have to make everyone's plates at the buffet. This is significant for me with 4 dc. At a buffet, by the time I get my food everyone else is done.) We also really liked Kona for dinner. Enjoy!!

We had the best seats you could buy also. We were directly in front of the stage, first table. It was awesome.

I loved the Poly, the room there is one of the larger hotel rooms I have stayed in and the bathroom was big, with lots of storage space, so I didn't have to have stuff on the tables in the room - plenty of space in the bathroom. They also do movies at night on the beach. You pull up a lounge chair and watch. Once the fireworks start, they pause the movie and then re-start it once the fireworks are over. I liked the décor, it's dated, but I thought it was a fun place to stay and I hope they maintain the style somewhat through renovations. Being on the monorail was awesome, too.
