anyone whos child has gotten ear tubes placed, come in!
my almost 1 year old has had 4 ear infections within 6 months & has had constant fluid in both ears for his entire little life. he had a follow up with the ENT last night, who is still recommending tubes
those of you that have experience, what was your situation like? was it the same? he said due to the fluid not draining he is a good candidate for tubes. i was a little surprised because my son will just be a year old march 5th. wondering if anyone else has had this done this young
we are using Dr. Mendelsohn from ENT allergy and associates in Garden City

Re: anyone whos child has gotten ear tubes placed, come in!
My DS got tubes in his ears right after his 1st birthday. He had constant fluid in his ears and about 8 infections in 5 months. It was terrible. He failed his hearing tests and our ENT said that basically everything he heard was like he was underwater. We were worried it would cause a speech delay so as soon as she suggested them we went for it.
It was the best thing we did for him. It has been almost a year and he's had only one infection since the tubes and that was because he had pneumonia. He is also talking like a maniac and his ears are perfect.

My dd got them at 16 months. They wanted to do them at 10 months but I was scared so we waited. She had reoccurring ear infections due to fluid that we could never get rid of. The surgery was the best thing for her. It was only 20 mins and she had zero pain. She had 2 ear infections after the tubes that healed right away with antibiotics. It would do again in a heart beat.

thanks for the response!
another ? -- how did he do with fasting? i'm kind of freaking out thinking about withholding a bottle and food from my son that morning as he LOVESSS his morning bottles. the office said they would try to get me the earliest possible time that day, but i imagine it will still be awful

Both DS and DD got ear tubes at 1 year old. They also had fluid that would not drain. It wasn't even a question in my mind to go for the tubes. If we could have done it sooner we would have! Fluid in the ears leads to impaired hearing which can delay speech development. As it was explained to me, it almost is like they are hearing underwater. Dr. Mendelsohn did both surgeries for my kids. He was done in 10 minutes for both and the kids were back to their normal selves the next day. As for the fasting, we were told we could give watered down apple juice a few hours before and that was what we did. They just ate when they woke up. Tubes was the best thing we ever did for them. My DS is 5 now and has only had 1 ear infection since. My DD is 21 months and has only had 1 ear infection as well. It's been 9 months for her. Good luck with your decision!

Sorry to hear about your Lo! I don't mean to hijack your topic but have you looked into taking your LO to a pediatric chiropractor? Gentle spinal manipulation allows the fluid to drain from the ear canals without tubes. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions. If you need help finding someone close to you FM me. I practice in East Islip. Good luck!

No problem! I was a nervous wreck with my DS. I could probably find my post from 4 years ago when I was asking the same questions as you. Then Mendelsohn did such a good job and was so on top of things with DS that when he recommended them for DD I just said "Bring them on!" My reaction was so different.
