I may have asked this before, but those whose DC have gotten ear tubes---

--please tell me what your ped or ENTs criteria were (how many infections, how often, whatever) before they recommended tubes...

My 16 month old has had 6 since Thanksgiving and we are going back to the ped next week for a recheck and talk about seeing ENT for at least a hearing test. I am just unsure if I should be pushing for tubes at this point or wait and see how the rest of spring goes....

Not sure what our ENT's was but the 2nd ENT saw the list almost fell off the chair wondering why it wasn't done sooner.

I am curious as well. My daughter has had an ear infection since the first or second week of february. we haven't been told to see an ENT yet.

My older son had them done at 16 months old. He started getting ear infections, whether it be single or double every month for 8 months straight. So, he had at least 8 of them. His Ped sent us to an ENT. They checked his hearing and it wasn't good at all. Chat Icon So, we ended up doing the tubes and his hearing was perfect after that and he has never had an infection since! He's now over 7 yrs old! Chat Icon I highly recommend them if they keep getting infections. It also got to a point that my son was on so many different meds because they weren't working anymore.

My Ped never suggested...DD had several ear infections so I made an appt at the ENT...

with the # you're mentioning, I would go to an ENT and ask just to have him looked at...can't hurt to just find out

I cannot remember how many single and double infections Abby had before she got her tubes and within what time frame, but she didnt get ear infections until she hit day care when she was 3 months old and her tubes went in when she was 10 months old. Jeremy is 7 months old and has had 3 single ear infections (that alternated ears) and one double. He also did not start getting them until he hit day care at 3 months. He is on the fast track to tubes.

I will say this though...Abby did not get an ear infection in 18 months post-tubes UNTIL she started swimming lessons. I asked the ENT if she needed plugs and he said no. Then after 2 ear infections this past year, he said that it was from bath water and swimmingChat Icon Soooo I strongly suggest to anyone whose child HAS tubes or will be getting tubes and plans to either have their child swim or batheChat Icon , to have them fitted for plugs. Abby's custom plugs were $120 and they are good for about 6 months. She is in Saf-T-Swim so its a necessity.

My older DD had so many ear infections, I can't even count...over 10 for sure..when we did tubes at 21 months. It was the best thing we ever did. She's now almost 3 and hasn't had an ear infection since.
My younger DD just got tubes last Thursday. She is 9.5 months old, and has had 6 ear infections since mid December, and fluid since then as well that never drained.

Both times I initiated the appt with the ENT.
