location of pediatrician?

I'm going to be a FTM in May and we are researching pediatricians. We currently live on the north shore and I work about 10 minutes from home. Within the next year, we are moving to Amity Harbor. We were thinking it makes more sense to go with a pediatrician that is close to home/work now especially since the baby will be in day care close to home/work, rather than closer to where we will eventually live? Does that make sense??

I guess my question is, is it easier/better to have a pediatrician closer to home or closer to where you work? And is it a big deal to change pediatricians once we move? Thanks!

I never changed peds, but I wouldn't want to drive too far to get to one. I think I'd rather change later on. You never know when you're going to have to go in for a sick visit etc, and to drive far would be annoying to me! In the fall I was at the ped every ten days for what felt like forever! I was glad it was only 10 mins away.

Def find ped close to home!
We love being able to get there in 10 minutes when they can squeeze us in for an emergency appointment.

Close to home. You're there often in the beginning!!

Def close to home. When your child is sick you're not going to want to go far from home

It's not hard at all to change we have moved a few times and each I just have to request mes records. We from a different state so I chose to pick up the records. I'm actually in the process of switching here in town and I had my new doctors request the info from the old drs. I just had to sign a form. I may get charged somewhere but it's with it.

Closer to home for sure. You're there a ton in the beginning and then when your child is sick, you'll probably be home with him/her

Close to home. most likely you will not be going to the doctor from work so I would not have the dr by work. Once you move you can get a new pediatrician close to where you live then

You can always switch. I highly recommend Patricia Ford in copaige near amity. Our whole family uses her and we would have too if we weren't further out in Suffolk. I'm pretty sure she takes children past newborn too. Some peds only take them if you enter the practice as a newborn.

If it were me, and I knew I were definitely moving in the next year to AmityHarbor, I'd look for a ped closer to the new home. My doc only takes on newborns, so you may run into that issue if you have to change docs at some point. I really don't feel like we were at the doctor that often with DS the first year other than his regular well visits that were all scheduled well in advance, so there was no rushing to get him there.

I was in a similar situation: lived in great neck, but knew we would be moving to the bellmore/wantagh area. We chose a pediatrician in bellmore. Honestly it was a pia. We didn't end up moving until dd was 18 mos old. In the beginning, you go pretty often for check ups, and new momness will probably lead you to wanting to go to the doctor for every little thing. I hated packing her up and making a 40 minute drive for a 20 minute visit. It was like a whole outing. I love my pediatricians, but in retrospect, I would have switched.
