What size is your smallest bedroom?

We're looking at houses and a lot of splits are in our price range. We like almost everything about the layouts. The only concern that I have is the bedroom sizes. The smallest bedroom is pretty small (maybe 9X10?) in most of the ones I've seen (central-south Nassau). How are your families making this work?

I had around that size growing up. It wasn't terrible!

That's probably the size of my daughter's bedroom, I would have to measure. It's a shoe box! But, I've managed to get a lot in there. She has a junior loft bed, so all of her toys are under that. She has a dresser next to it. A book shelf near the door. The space under her window is open. I took the closet doors off, and moved her low lying computer desk and storage ottoman into there with a book shelf next to it. I added curtains to the closet.

How old was she when you moved her to a loft bed? My youngest is two. We'd put her in the shoe box lol.

our nursery is a hair bigger than that and it's now working double duty for both girls. We moved out the glider but it has a crib, toddler bed, low dresser/changing table, tall chest, and s small bookcase. The furniture layout isn't the best looking but there's plenty of storage and still enough room to play.

I want to say 5, but maybe 4...I can't remember!! But, my nieces were in low loft beds at a young age. My one niece was probably almost 2, and the other I'm guessing almost 4. The little one has never had an issue falling out, etc.!

Re: What size is your smallest bedroom?

My ds' bedroom is 8 x 12.5 but it has a small bump out from the closet by the front door.

It's totally fine now but I worry about when he's bigger!

It's our fourth bedroom and we planned on having two kids when we bought the house and ooops he's our 3rd
I feel bad sometimes but I grew up sharing my room with my sister.

I'll probably give home the choice of a loft bed when he's out of a toddler bed
Technically a full bed and dresser will fit in there no problem but not much else

Our rooms are big (cape) but growing up we had 10x10 bedrooms. Way too small!! My dad had to build our beds on top of our dressers so we had enough room. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What size is your smallest bedroom?

My DDs room is about that size. She is only 5 and so far it's been fine, but my DH worries that we need to move to give her a bigger room for when she is older! Personally I think it's fine, she still has her own room, the only problem is her brother's room is much larger and he has a double bed (hers is a twin).

My dds room is about that size and while I wish it was bigger, we are making it work. She's still in her crib, and also has a dresser, bookshelf, and glider. I worry about how cramped the room will look when she gets a twin sized bed. But I think we'll be able to squeeze it in.

We have a split and our kids' bedroom is about 10x10. I currently have 2 four year olds and a 2 year old in one room. They are stil in toddler beds. We have a three bedroom split and will be moving my boys up to the third bedroom after the summer. It's small but right now they are only there to sleep. They don't play in their room. we won't be in this house that much longer and although the the bedroom size isn't that big a deal right now, I hope to find a new house with slightly larger bedrooms, including the master bedroom.

The two bedrooms on the first floor are much bigger. There's a bathroom on the floor too. I guess we could move them down there at some point - like when they're teenagers and we want to be far, far away lol.

Thanks ladies! We're leaning towards taking the plunge...

What size is your smallest bedroom?

My smallest is 7x 11. Is tough cause it's skinny but fine for DS and really doesn't need more even when he is older.

Re: What size is your smallest bedroom?

We're in a split and the smallest bedroom is 9x11, I think. It's a little on the small side, but we're making it work. Growing up, we had a ranch and my sister had a bedroom about that size. She had plenty of furniture and it all fit fine - bed with drawers under and in the headboard, dresser with hutch and desk with drawers. It was a custom made piece so there was also a huge storage unit built into the corner of her furniture between the dresser and desk.

Re: What size is your smallest bedroom?

DS's room is a bit bigger than that, but not much. More important than the size is the layout of the door, closet and window. Cause the way my DS's is, it will be a problem once he is out of a toddler bed. The window is 60" high, so just 18" above and below it, so nothing can really go under it, and the space on each side of it is too small for a piece of furniture, one wall has the closet, and the door to the room opens onto that wall, and the other wall has to door to the room. So there is only 1 solid wall in the whole room. Furniture placement will be difficult with a normal bed.

DD's room is 10X10. Works perfectly with a toddler bed and before that a crib. Many of her toys live in our den. Once we upgrade to a twin it will be tight but workable.

Re: What size is your smallest bedroom?

We have a split and that sounds like my dd's room. She has the smallest room but it doesn't feel crowded . Helps we have just her full size bed, dresser and nightstand. Very minimalistic but we have a playroom in the house so all her toys and junk are in there

Re: What size is your smallest bedroom?

i don't really think 9x10 is a small room, especially for a child.

Right now our room and DS's room are the same size. about 11.5 x 13. It is a nice size room for him, for us, it is not bad even with a king bed.

we are moving to our guest room when baby comes, which is bigger, but has slanted ceilings, and the kids will have the same sizes.

I think my childhood room was 9x10, possibly smaller. I shared it at one point. Not great, but doable. I remember having a twin bed and toy chest and still being able to play. All clothes were in the closet and there were shelves for toys in there too.
