What is the best age to bring your DC to Disney?

My son is only 9 months, but I am dying to go back (I used to work there) and I really want to see Harry Potter world. My husband, however, is not a fan and doesn't want to go when he is super young as he feels it would be a waste.

So what is the best age?

best age I would say 4 or 5. But I just recently brought my 2 1/2 year old and was surprised how much she enjoyed it. But my 4 1/2 was just a better age bc of no naps, being able to sit in a resturant better and just more overall we could do with her.

I agree - not that my 2.5 yo didn't enjoy it..she really did but it was easier with my 4 yo.

I took my DS at 10.5 months. His face was priceless.

We have video of it and we still love to watch his face. While I didn't plan a Disney trip, we were going to a timeshare and went to Magic Kingdom for the Mickey Xmas party and also Downtown Disney one evening.

I am taking him again next month he will be 3. We are going to visit my parents and going to Hollywood Studios for the day.

Any age is a good age. I took my DD for the first time at 18 months and it wasn't a waste at all. I can't stand when people say that. She had a BLAST! Of course they aren't going to remember it, but they don't remember ANYTHING when they are young ;)

I think there is something for every age and "best age" depends on what you are looking for. we brought our almost 6 and 8 year old last year and it was perfect. They were interested in almost everything. They were young enough to experience the magic of it all and enjoy Peter Pan and its a small world but old enough to ride space mountain 7x in a row! I think we did almost every attraction in MK. For us, that was the best age.

i agree any age is great. different things for different ages. Bestbang for your buck just before 3 - we took our twins at 2.75 and they were free to enter park, ate free at buffet character meals, and could go on most rides. They loved it - yes we went back to hotel for naps and they go to bed early but I would leave the parks mid day otherwise to swim and relax away from crowds

I think any age is great, unless you only want to go once.
We took DD1 at 18 months and can't wait to go again. Anytime DH said DD won't remember, I told him that I would remember.

I think it really depends on if you plan on going to Disney once or back a few times. If you were going only once, then I would wait until about 5 so they can really enjoy everything.

We go to disney often and started taking DD at 2. She loved it at that time and it was magical but she didn't do much. She has been back about 5 times since then.

I agree. We went when DD was 3.5 and DS was 19mo. Of course DD LOVED it, it was a great age for her. I thought DS was going to be too young but he also had an amazing time. He totally recognized the characters, got so excited to see them and even got mad when performances were over.

Even if the kids don't remember it, we took tons of pics, have videos and DH and I have wonderful memories. We can't wait to go back, although we may wait a year between trips.

eta- Our 19mo old was able to go on almost all the rides that our 3yo went on, so it's not like he didn't get to do anything.

5 I would say is best if you have to choose. My DD was 3.5 and it was awesome, but we weren't basing it on anything. We would go back whenever, there is nothing holding us back.

We brought DD last year at 2.5, she LOVED it. The characters & character meals were her favorite. She loved the rides too, but every time she saw a character her face was priceless, she was so excited.

She asks us to go back a couple times a week, she remembers. We are going back in May because she really wants to go back. She will be 3.5. I think all ages are good. Every age gets something different out of it.

DH & I went before kids, and had an amazing time.

What is the best age to bring your DC to Disney?

We are taking our son in April. He will be alittle over 2 when we get there. I don't think he will remember it but I think he will have a blast when we are there. The great thing also is that we don't have to pay for his park tickets

What is the best age to bring your DC to Disney?

If you're only going to do a once in a lifetime trip, I would wait until they are TALL enough to go on all the rides. For my shortie daughter, that's going to be a very long time Chat Icon We went last yr when she was almost 2 and opted to do a character breakfast and that was it. No parks. It made her whole trip! We didn't miss the parks at all. We are going again this year when she's almost 3 and planning on doing a couple of parks and character bf again.

So my answer, if going more often, each age has things to look forward to. So there's really no right answer.

It depends on the kid.

We took our DD when she was 2 and again at 3 and she just wasn't into it either time. She hated rides, didn't care for the characters but she loved the parade. We went again when she was 5 and our DS was 2 and they both had a blast. DS was so into it. Now our 3rd child will be 2 in April and I can tell already she'll go bananas there. She loves Disney characters. We are planning a trip this Fall.

In your situation, I would probably agree with your husband, especially because he's not a fan and doesn't want to go with a baby so young. A trip now would be for your enjoyment, not for your family. Wait a couple years when your DH can look forward to teacup rides and character meets with your son.

Since its so expensive we are probably going to wait until my youngest is 5-6 to really enjoy the experience. This is my plan but who knows lol.

I totally agree.

We took the kids when DS 1 was 2 3/4 and DS 2 was 6 months and had a great time.

We just went again when DS 2 was 4 3/4 and DS 2 was 2 1/2 and DS 2 didn't enjoy it as much as DS 1 did at that age... He wasn't into characters or rides like his brother was which was disappointing.

we took my son almost a year ago, when he was 3. he had fun and liked the rides and stuff... BUT it was just a lot for him and he got tired. didn't like waiting in the lines and all that (who does?? LOL ) BUT there are a couple things i would do different- we only went for 5 nights/4 days. so we did a park every day. it was a lot... i would go for at least a week and build in a pool day or 2. also, my parents were with us and they hadn't been in like 10 years- so they had a bunch of stuff they wanted to see. so i felt like we were dragging DS along and not really going with what he wanted to do as much. you just have to remember that for their first visit- they don't know what they're missing.... so they'll be happy with whatever they get to do.
We plan on Taking DS again in December 2015, right after he turns 5... i think he'll be the perfect age at that point more patience for the lines, tall enough for pretty much every ride, and still young enough to get excited about all of the characters and stuff...

Re: What is the best age to bring your DC to Disney?

I personally don't think a family vacation is EVER a waste.
But I think the BEST time to go is when everyone is tall enought to ride everything.

We've been twice, when they were 2/4 and 3/5 - and while both were great trips. I'm looking forward to it just being easier when everyone can ride everything together.

Also, Disney is something I'd take them out of school for to go off peak. I think the only thing that could make the trip a waste is spending 1/2 of your day in line surrounded by 9 million people - missing out on things you want to see/do, having to plan a dinner 180 days in advance etc. Chat Icon

We went in October, my kids were 6 yrs old and 1.5 yrs old. They both LOVED it!!!! I knew my DD would freak out but even my son had an incredible time. He smiled for ten days straight. He really enjoyed everything. I don't think you're ever too young to enjoy Disney!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I used to go every 3-4 yrs when I was younger.
I think I remember it the best and have the fondest memories from when I was between 6-10 years of age. so if you are only going to go once during their childhood i'd pick between there. at 6 they will still be into the younger stuff but probably able to do the bigger stuff too. i'm dying to go now but since i cant afford to go often ive convinced myself its not worth it to take her until she is at least 4.5 years of age. I would like to go with her once before age 10 and once after age 10.
