Flu spinoff ...update
What were your kids symptoms
DD vomited 1x last night and has a fever of 102-103 No other symptoms Curious if it's a mild stomach bug or if it could be the flu
She was all over my 3 month old neice right before she got sick
Eta: she did not get the flu shot
Update: she has strep! Glad it can be treated

Re: Flu spinoff
My DS has a high fever, runny nose, coughing, complaining his body aches. Said he was going to throw up a few times but never did.
He started early Sunday morning around 5 am with symptoms (went to bed fine). Last night at 3 am he had a fever of 103.8. Gave him more motrin and so far no fever.
Hoping we are in the clear with the fever. Now just waiting for my 1 year old to display symptoms
My kids did not get the flu shot. I have an appointment for DS next Monday to get one since his school sent me a letter that he now has to get one.

Flu spinoff
When AJ had H1N1, she didn't have a super high fever. Just around 102 barely. She was however VERY lethargic, not eating.
No vomiting No loose bowels
We do not do the flu shot in our house. :)
She and I had the H1N1 when it first came out. But it wasn't that big of a deal. We suffer longer with allergies! Meh.
Hubby can't remember last time he had a flu.
This past weekend we took AJ into a night pediatric for lethargic and not eating (no nos in my book) and fevers at 102.8. They said her throat was super red. The sides of her abs hurt as well. She was the only child who did not walk in on her own power we had to carry her everywhere. She barely stood for the weighing. They swabbed her for strep, never once mentioned flu and gave us precautionary antibiotics. Test results were negative and after that one dose of antibiotics she was fine. I don't know what it was - still. It was the first time she's ever missed school for a sick day.

Re: Flu spinoff
I didn't even know DS was sick first. He was complaining he was achy, but for a 3 year old was just pointing to body parts throughout the day saying it hurts. He's clumsy and just figured he fell. Had a fever last night then a wet cough and sneeze. Fever as well. DS doesn't complain much or gets fevers often so I took him to the Ped. I know the flu is gojng around. Especially in his school. Wouldn't have known but she did the test for the flu. Hope it's not the flu for your DD.

Re: Flu spinoff
A lot of sicknesses have flu-like symptoms even when it's not the flu. You'll only know by having the dr test for it.

Yes. This is true bc last year DS had an even higher fever and seemed worse. The Ped tested him and I was almost positive it was the flu. Would up being a virus and was ok after a couple of days. This time he didn't seem as bad so figured it wasn't the flu, but came back positive for it. My boys don't get fevers too often so when they do I always take them to the Peds. You never know.

Yes! I can personally attest to that. A few years back I was so sick I thought I might die.
I had 103 fever, chills, body aches, I felt like utter death. The doctor thought flu for sure, even gave me Tamiflu (which I never took because it made me nervous especially without a diagnosis). Test came back negative for flu. It was either a virus or some other upper respiratory infection- a few days on antibiotics and I was much better.
So you never know

Flu spinoff
DS vomits every time he has a fever and it spikes. Usually a good indicator for me whether or not he has a stomach bug (where he throws up with no fever) or something else (last time he did this it wound up being tonsilitis).

Also, DH had the flu the first year we were married. He took Tamiflu and I guess it killed everything in his system because he got pink eye and a stomach bug on top of it.

VERY true!!! OMG If I hear one more person say "Oh I have/had the flu" when they aren't even tested...... grrrrrrrrrrr
The flu has a test. You either have it or you don't. But the symptoms are so similar to TONS of other things! Ironically fever is one but honestly AJ's has a cold with fever more times than I can COUNT! So achy, chilled, coughing, sneezing, misery WITH a fever and totally NOT THE FLU!
We have something here called Cedar Fever (which is basically a horrific allergy mess) and newbies are always crying flu when its just the season. Just happens to coincide with flu season so they assume its the same, but its not. We are waiting for our Cedar Fever to kick up but the seasons have been so strange! Funny because about now is when it usually starts and folks freak about the flu shot and OMG where do I get it, do I have the flu, cough, sneeze, fever, RUN! but no such panic right now since Cedar Fever hasn't started.

Just an fyi the flu is the worst this season. The strain that is circling is H3N2- which the vaccine does not protect against. I had the flu for ten days and it was horrible!!! Still feeling run down even now....
