If your preschool had an event for the grandparents.. would you go too?
Let me preface this by saying...DD is my oldest and I have to say I am ridiculously enthusiastic about everything she does at preschool
Next week the school is doing a little concert and breakfast with Santa.. for the grandparents. DD has been practicing her songs and is so excited. My parents are in NY and won't be able to make it but MIL and FIL are going.
Not to sound whiny but I WANNA GO TOO!
I've asked around, none of the other Mom's seem to care. I was planning on just going, but then one Mom said she asked a teacher and she said "it's really for the grandparents" (so I got that info second hand) so I thought at this point I shouldn't try to go.
My DH is such a rule-follower and doesn't like to ruffle feathers and HE says I should just go anyway. One of my friends says that I'm paying tuition, I shouldn't feel stressed about showing up. My in-laws want me there because they like their hand held through events like this
At the same time, the calendar says "breakfast with Santa, grandparents invited!" so it's kind of obnoxious of me to show up, no?
I just want to see the concert part, I don't need pancakes or to do any of the activities... I have no idea what time that is in the program though. I thought about contacting the teacher to ask if they need any volunteers to help out just so I can see the concert part but I have a 19 month old DS that would prevent me from being very helpful.
Everyone that works there is sweet as pie and so relaxed, I can't imagine they'll say anything to me if I do decide to go, but that's not really the point....

I would go. My situation is a little different, DS has no grandparents. I don't think he should be excluded though from participating in those types of events.

Re: If your preschool had an event for the grandparents.. would you go too?
My question is-- is this the one and only holiday concert/celebration they are having with the families? If so, I think that it's very weird that only grandparents are invited and I would see about attending too. I would probably question the director about it actually. If there is a concert or party where parents are invited, I would just go to that.

There is a party that parents and siblings are invited a week and a half later, but that's "just" sitting around and watching them eat cookies and do their gift exchange. Adorable, of course, but certainly not my first born's first concert!!!!

Ask the teacher yourself. Explain you really want to be there for the concert.

I would just ask the teacher to clarify who is invited and just ask her if parents are welcome. I wouldn't assume anything.

I would go and wouldn't care what the other parents or teachers thought...lol. Especially since the invite says "Breakfast with Santa, grandparents invited" - it doesn't exclude you, KWIM?
Plus, what if your DD didn't have grandparents that lived close or at all - would you want her to be the only child there without someone to support her?

I wouls absolutely go. The "Grandparents Invited" I would take to mean in additional to the regular parental involvement thats expected. I wouldn't miss it and I would bring your video camera because it sounds adorable!

I would definitely go. I can't imagine parents not being welcome at a school event. If parents are working, I can see them saying it's for grandparents and not going. But if you want to go, then go.

As long as the school had other events I could attend throughout the year, I wouldn't go.

I would ask the teacher. If she said it's for the grandparents, then no I wouldn't go. I'd ask them to video it for me. If she said, parents are welcome, I would go.

Def go!!! The breakfast part when everyone else is sitting with their grandparents your dd will be on her own? makes no sense when you could be there with her. I think its a strange thing to ask since not everyone has grandparents.

Re: If your preschool had an event for the grandparents.. would you go too?
In this situation I would leave the decision to the grandparents. If my mom and MIL were going I don't know that they would want me there, it would be more special for them if they went alone. If your ILs want you there, I say go!

I don't mean to sound like a total turd, but if I do ask the teacher, and she says that, then all bets are off and it's REALLY obnoxious for me to go. Right now, it's only slightly obnoxious because I haven't heard it from the teacher

I would just go. The calendar doesn't say "grandparents only". it says they are invited, which I would take to mean, your family AND grandparents can come!

Re: If your preschool had an event for the grandparents.. would you go too?
I would not go without asking. My kids preschool had the same thing and when I called to ask they said no to parents because then there would be space issues etc. So, there was a reason for it. Of course, I REALLY wanted to go but, it wasn't how the event was set up. If I had heard later that other parents showed up I would have been really upset because honestly it's just not fair. Either all parents should be allowed to go or none. So, imo, I do think going without asking is not the right thing to do and not fair to other parents who would have wanted to come and did the right thing and asked but were told no. I guarantee you that you are not the only parent that wants to be there.

Good answer... oddly enough, all five of the Mom's I'm friends with in the class are laughing at me and my enthusiasm for wanting to go. They have no interest in going and are excited to use the time to go shopping and run errands. This doesn't mean the other 8-9 parents I don't know aren't in your boat and/or might just be going anyway, my sample size is small.
I've decided to go and watch the show then jet out, I don't want to take up space at the pancake table, or take away from the grandparents, but I need to see her sing. I'm sure that puts me in an obnoxious Mommy category but I've gotta see that 5 minutes of singing and my in-laws are being all awkward about going without any guidance.
Thanks everyone for your input, as I would have guessed, it was great to get all the differing opinions!

At the preschool my DD attended, they used to have shows for the grandparents only bc they would have the exact same show for the partakes a month or so later. It was due to space issues.
