Very late walker?
My 16 month old is not yet walking. Cruising yes. But does not let go or hold my hands to take steps.
I blame myself a little because we recently moved cross country and things were so hectic. I wasn't focused on encouraging it enough. Our new house has a lot more space than our apartment so maybe that will help.
Anyone have a child not walking by 16 months?

Very late walker?
I assume if you moved cross country you have a new doctor? What have they said? When I moved from NY to TX one of the first things I tried to do was get a Dr. for AJ. Unfortunately she got sick and I had to use an ER and it was horrible. I say get a doc and ask
Good Luck

Very late walker?
DS just turned 14 months and he is not walking yet. Same as your child -- cruising and will go to take one step but then sits on his tush. He is actually in PT 2 days per week, as he was late to sit up (on his own) and crawl. The therapist says he is not late to walk and is right on track with that. She said that some kids walk very early -- 9 months, and others later... but you shouldnt be concerned if everything else is in line. 18 months is generally the cut off for concern. If your child is not walking in the next 6 weeks i would call your pediatrician and see if they recommend getting him evaluated for PT services. Can never hurt. And if he is doing everything else he probably wouldnt qualify anyway :) GOOD LUCK

Very late walker?
All three of my kids walked at 17 and 18 months. I wouldn't be too concerned if your dc is doing everything else. Every baby is different and will walk when they want to. It never hurts to get an EI evaluation if you are really concerned.

Re: Very late walker?
Both my boys were late walkers. DS1 walked a week before 15 months and DS2 walked at 17 months. I never thought he was going too. Didn't have any delays or issues so the doc just told me he will and if not by 18 months then he'd be concerned. Well, a few weeks shy of 18 months DS2 walked and never looked back. Now at 3 he is a strong, fast and healthy boy. Just keep encouraging it and it will happen. Unless you feel there is some delay then don't worry. You are the mommy and will know if something is up.

Re: Very late walker?
My niece was a week or two shy of 18 months when she really started walking. She would cruise or hold someone's hands and occasionally take a step or 2 but she didn't want to do it by herself. Her ped wasn't concerned at all. Sure enough, she took off just before 18 months and is all over the place now.

Re: Very late walker?
My DD didn't really start cruising until 18 months. But by 20 months she was walking really well. And by 24 months she was running and all sorts of stuff. So, now you wouldn't tell at all because she meets all of her gross motor skills (minus jumping). She was always a little delayed in the area. I think some kids just need more time.

Very late walker?
My son did not walk until 17 months and one week. I was so nervous and upset before that because he was such a late walker but don't worry your child will walk. I used to take to sons hands and literally drag him up the block for 20-30 mins a day for a week straight and after than he finally started to show some interest.

Re: Very late walker?
My DD didn't walk until close to 18 months. They said at 18 months if they don't walk then you can you can have her evaluated. You still have time

Re: Very late walker?
My DD walked at 17 months. She was on the late side with all gross motor things (sitting, crawling, walking). She is totally fine. The dr was never worried. She even broke her leg shortly after she started walking and she was still fine.

Very late walker?
My DD was cruising forever. One of the things that got her walking (I prob read it on LIF) was to put a toy on the couch then stand DD up one or two steps away and she will try to take those steps. My DD kind of dove at thr couch the first few times, but if we got her the right distance, she took a couple steps.

Re: Very late walker?
DS walked at 15 months, the kid shopping carts and thisvtech helped a lot with confidence. Had him running in no time.

Re: Very late walker?
My DS will be 16 months soon, and he can't walk on his own yet. Only if he holds both of my hands (and if he only holds one of my hands he loses his balance & falls). He walks holding on to the furniture but that's it. He's been late with doing everything so far so I think he just needs another few months.

Re: Very late walker?
16 mo is not really late. Check with the ped or early intervention in another 2 months.

Re: Very late walker?
Yup. My 3rd. It was a confidence thing. He was so afraid of falling he would never let go. And if I tried not to hold his hand he would get down and start crawling. I thought this kid was never gonna walk! He took his first solo step (without holding on) at 17 months and 2 weeks. He was distracted by Team umi zoomi on tv and didn't realize I wasn't holding his hand. Now almost a month later he is practically running everywhere.

Re: Very late walker?
Both of my boys were late walkers. One at 14 months, the other nearly 17 months.
The ped said it is only a delay if not walking by 18 months.
They are 6 and 4 now and they are strong and athletic

Re: Very late walker?
Thank you all yes I have found a new dr in the area, but we only met her once. Our last ped was not concerned, but as a mom I just want to know all milestones are being reached. I know once I stop stressing, it will happen.

Re: Very late walker?
I wouldn't worry. My dd started walking all of sudden at 15 months. My mother told me I didn't walk until 22 months and I am fine. Children develop at different times

Re: Very late walker?
My dd did not start walking until she was 20 mos. She was evaluated at 18 mos., and qualified, and started walking just as the pt was starting.
Technically, 16 mos. is still not delayed but I would have everything in place to start an eval the day she turns 18 mos.

Re: Very late walker?
Thanks for the info. My daughter was always ahead with physical milestones but late with verbal. My son is the opposite. Earlier talker and late walker. He can't even stand without holding on. Is that a reason to be concerned? Turned 16 months last week.
