Recommend your thermometer
Have the Exergen temporal thermometer and HATE it, I've had it for 3 years and it's never worked properly.
What do you guys use? Ear thermometers? Something else? My DC are 4 and 1.5 years if that helps...?

Re: Recommend your thermometer
I use a rectal thermometer - that's what my peds recommend. I like the Vicks one with the short end so you can't over insert and it takes a reading very quickly. DD is almost 2 - not sure what I will be using by the time she hits 4!

I have a digital recital thermometer (safety first) and the Exergen thermometer. I have not had a problem with the Exergen thermometer.

I liked the exergen for a while but after two trips to the ped where they measured DD at a fever and my exergen didn't I switched to the braun ear thermometer. It's also a big help that she's gotten used to the ear thermometer so we don't start every dr. appointment with her crying bc she's scared of it!

Until 2 I used the under arm ones At 2 and up we use Exergen
I hate the ear ones. They'd always have wrong temps. They'd say she had a fever when she didn't.
Every single pediatrician I have ever been to the entire time AJ has been alive has never once stuck anything up her butt for temp. (An ER nurse did it once but that was only time in her life) so I won't do it either. Not that is 'wrong' (by no means) but if there's a better way, why not. And every doctor both in NY & TX I have been to uses the type that cross over the forehead to temple. So I've become a pro at it.
HOWEVER, I have never tried the ear ones myself. So they may be great but I've had no complaints so far with what I have other than how to use it. Its just that OTHERS using the ear one on AJ made me leery of them. At least if you mess up the temporal you KNOW it not get some randomly bad number. JMHO

We have two vick's, temporal and a quick read digital. Like them both. We tried another brand that had a bunch of attachments to use in different areas but wasn't quick read and didn't like it.
