If you have flown with your LO's.....................
.....................and do NOT have a passport for them, do you have to bring their birth certificate when traveling with them?
I've never had to fly with them yet so I don't know if I have to take any kind of documentation with me. TIA!

If you have flown with your LO's.....................
We flew when dd was 4.5 months as a lap infant. Wasn't asked for it, but I had it just in case.
Next time we fly she will be 17 months and have her own seat. Def bringing it with me.
Better safe than sorry. Make a copy to bring.

If it is a domestic flight you don't need anything. I've flown 8 times with my 2 boys since May 2014 and I've never needed anything.
ETA: Aren't you flying to FL? All 8 of my flights have been between JFK and FL.

I have flown a TON with AJ Always state side of course because *I* don't have a passport!
I have never -*EVER*- not a SINGLE TIME, taken her birth certificate anywhere with me. NOT ONCE
I've flown in and out of NYC, San Fran, Orlando, DFW, Austin, Chicago, Omaha with her. Never taken it with me, never been asked.

You only need id if they are a lap child (even though they seem to rarely ask for it in my experience - I do have a friend who was given a hard time once for not having it).

Yes, FL. From MacArthur.
Thank you everyone!! I just wanted to be sure. I don't even have my passport so I'm use to bringing everything with me, I just didn't know if I had to do the same with them.

I always fly with a copy of the birth certificate.
I flew with DS as a lap infant 4 times and was ALWAYS asked. Better to be safe than sorry.
When he has a seat we have not been asked.

No - We flew to FL when the kids were 2 and 4 and didn't need any ID for them actually (which kind of disturbed me a little .....like, HOW do you know this is MY child? Don't they check that kind of thing?)

I know - I was surprised when I looked at the airline's website and it said no id is needed for kids under 18 - unless they are a lap child. You would assume you need to provide something!

For domestic flights they didn't ask for anything (I still carried a copy if his birth certificate just in case). On our international flight we had his passport

Thanks everyone! I'll bring a copy......just in case. Better safe than sorry. My DS is only 18 months and can technically be a lap sitter but we got him a seat.

Re: If you have flown with your LO's.....................
If international, YES! We flew to Mexico in July and DS was 10 mths,at the time. You definitely need it although, we were told a birth certificate was fine. I'm not sure about domestic and if it's on a per airline basis but check that out. It seems everyone needs passports now. Have fun!

Re: If you have flown with your LO's.....................
YES BRING IT!!! We went to Disney last month and were almost told we couldn't go because we didn't have 20 month old DS's birth certificate. This was leaving from Mac Arthur and going to Orlando. He has a lap infant. I had no clue we needed it but apparently it said we did when I booked the flight online.
The woman when we were checking in even asked if we had a family member who could run to our house and bring it to the airport before the flight! I wasn't sure where it was so I said definitely not. We had to beg to be let on the plane, I really thought we weren't going to go, she kept going on and on that it was an FAA regulation. We were told we had to get an email from our ped stating DS's name and date of birth for our return flight or he wouldn't be allowed on.
Going by everyone else, we were pretty unlucky I guess. We were THIS CLOSE to not being allowed on the flight. Not the stress you need at the beginning of your trip. Definitely bring the birth certificate incase you run into the same woman we did there!

Lap infants need ID. If paying for their own seat, they do not.

Ahh, I see! I read quickly and assumed they meant lap infant.
