Has anyone flown out of JKF w/ children recently?
Do the kids go through the body scanner and if you refuse do they pat them down? Or can they just go through a regular machine ? Body scan and someone touching my kid both skeeve me out. We are flying domestic if that matters

I went a year ago with DS when he was 8.5 months old. Just walked through the body scanner with him.
If you feel uncomfortable I guess you can ask the guard, but not sure how it works with children. Sorry

We flew round trip from FLL to JFK late dec/early jan and didn't go through any body scanners. We saw them (don't remember which airport) but they weren't being used. We did see them pull 3 women aside for extensive pat downs... they were all wearing long skirts.

I am pretty sure you can request not to go through it and they will just use that wand thing on you- I did that when I was pregnant and they had just started using the scanners

I know as an adult you can request not to go through the body scan, but then you get the full invasive hand pat down, not the wand. At least that is what I've read. I guess I'm weird, but people get arrested for looking at naked kids so I certainly don't want any looking at my kid and I don't want their hands in places they don't belong either. I don't care for myself.

I flew Jet Blue at the end of December and we went through the regular xray scan. Has it changed since then?

We flew a month ago - none of us had to go through a body scanner or be pat down - it's a random selection.
On the way back, I was subject to patdown in Phoenix because I had formula with me.

We flew Thanksgiving weekend when the body scanners went into full effect & we went through the normal. The TSA worker told us they are totally random..

That high tech body scanner/pat down is only a worry if you get picked for a high level screening. If you just go through normally you walk through the metal dector just as usual. We flew on Thanksgiving when there was all the hype and both times I only saw one person getting a pat down.
