Re: What kind of mom are you?
I am first time SAHM...to 2.5 year old triplet boys. I was extremely laid back because with triplets you just can't sweat the small stuff. Plus it became evident very early on that one wAs not doing as well as his brothers. He would up having mild cerebral palsy, nothing terrible, but enough to give me perspective on what was important.
Because I cannot be all over three kids, I don't try. At Gymboree and the playground I usually just hang by the exit/entrance so no one can escape! Lol. Falls etc don't bother me at all. Because one of my sons couldnt initially run, jump, climb, go up stairs etc., it made me happy to see other two doing it. Now that my third guy can it makes me even happier. I encourage rough housing and anything that will develop motor skills.
I am crazy about safety and safety proofing.
I buy everything organic that I possibly can but once we are out in the world i let it be. I do what I can and don't obsess. We do rely way too much on processed and frozen food. I don't know of organic chicken nuggets are much better than non organic, lol. But with triplets, one of whom receives 9 therapies/services a week that I participate in, it's the best I can do.
I used to be VERY lax about germs but not anymore. We got about 5 distinct stomach viruses last winter - all with diarrhea and vomiting. For mommy and daddy too! This fall we all got coxsackie. My hands are still peeling. I just can't face another winter being so sick and dealing with kids who are so sick so I am now the crazy alcohol wipe rub down mom :)

Re: What kind of mom are you?
I was a SAHM for DDs first year. Unfortunately I have since gone back to work. I tend to be a little more laid back in the sense that I allow her to explore her environment freely. She puts things in her mouth and I let her climb knowing she is going to fall (within limits). On the other hand she doesn't play much on her own. I actually enjoy playing with her so usually we are playing with her toys together. If I need to step away, I do.
As for food, she used to be on only organic. Now I kind of change it up. She eats only organic meat, eggs, and cheese as well as some other organic dairy. Exceptions of course when we are out. She has to eat vegetables everyday. She eats fish once a week (sometimes twice) and if she doesn't like what I give her for a meal, she goes without eating. If she eats well, she gets some whipped cream or a fig newton.
My biggest thing is discipline, I am pretty neurotic when it comes to her behavior. Stealing toys, crying for attention, acting out when she doesn't get her way is not tolerated. She still does it, but I don't give in.

I work 4 days a week.
I am laid back in the fact that I don't stress about them getting hurt or sick. I teach them limits on the playground and I try my best to have them wash their hands when I think of it.
I set limits and stick to them. Its hard in the beginning but so worth it in the end.
I'm organized.
We eat healthy most of the time not organic. But they also eat fast food sometimes and have "dessert" every night.
People say I am supermom which I hate because it is not true. I take them places alone because I have to and because quite frankly I HATE being home with them all day. I yell and I scream. I sometimes have to walk away.
I am NOT a perfect mom by any means but my kids know they are loved, they respect other people and other kids and most importantly they are HAPPY.

Re: What kind of mom are you?
I'm a tired mom. Sigh.
DD is 14 1/2 mos and I'm a ftm and a ftwm. DH works ft too. I'm laid back with some things, letting her play/have the run of our house. Anxious with other things. DD was recently hospitalized with a virus where her temp spiked and resulted in a seizure. Absolutely terrifying and we'll have to be very vigilant from here on out when she gets a fever.
I'm on her when we are out, particularly classes, because she can be over zealous with other kids and I want to make sure no one gets hurt.
We don't do organic, I'm ok with germs (within reason of course).
Basically, I'm just trying to keep my ish together between mommyhood and work. I'm in awe of the women who make it seem so effortless. Definitely not me. I feel like a hot mess.every.day.

My kid is eating the bubbles in her bubble bath. That's all I got.
Someone posted a pic of DD photobombing this otherwise beautiful family picture looking like a total ragamuffin and gnawing on bubbles at a wedding. I have NO IDEA where DH or I were but obviously not paying any attention to what our 2.5 year old was doing.
Most of the time I am laid back. DD is very well behaved (for the most part) so I have no need to be on top of her. At home she doesn't get into trouble and can keep herself occupied most of the time if I need her to. When we're at classes, I always joke that I should go out for coffee bc she pays no attention to me when there are other kids around. I definitely don't hover and let her do her thing while I take my precious chance to socialize a bit!
I will admit that I have issues trusting other people with her. I SAH and she's almost always with me so I get nervous when she's with someone else - whether I'm there or not. I had a very hard time leaving her as an infant and still have only had others put her to bet a few times but I'm much better about it now. I'm hoping with our next LO I can be better about that from early on.
She doesn't eat organic food most of the time bc, being a sahm, we just can't afford it. I try to cook most of her food and not do too much processed but I'm not super strict about it. We avoid the dirty dozen when we can so I don't feel as bad about not doing organic.
Overall, DD is happy, healthy, very polite, outgoing, kind, and smart. I don't know how much my parenting has to do with some of those things but I take at least a little credit. I'm also a mom who looks forward to when it's not my bath night and who dreads the end of naps. I have no desire to be supermom, my house is not spotless, and we don't have fancy things but we enjoy our time together so that's most important to me.

I was thinking the same thing. I am laid back in most areas of my life and parenting is no different. We don't follow schedules or strict bed times for example. I am admittedly a scaredy cat so in the playground you catch me running after DS for fear he will crack his head open, this is the one area I will say that I am no laid back, when it comes to physical things I am a nervous nelly, my SIL always yells at me bc she says I am going to transfer this to DS (which is true but I can't help it).
We don't do organic, but I do cook for DS mainly, he can and does have the occasional happy meal though I am not crazy in that way.
I am not crazy w germs not with myself not with DS IMO living in a sterile environment makes you more prone to illness.
I don't love leaving my son (and now DD) for long periods of time, another way I am not laid back, we have never slept away from them for more than one night and while I enjoy a night away with DH I miss them so much it isn't something I want to do often...so maybe I am a smothering mom? lol

I think we all think we are laid back but when questions are asked about different specific things people aren't as laid back.
Parents might be laid back about certain things and not others.

Yes, this exactly.
On the whole, I am laid back. Not much stresses me in my life even outside of the kids. I tend to roll with things and take things as they come.
But there are SOME things I am less laid back about when it comes to my kids. Like I said earlier, I'm a stickler for bedtimes and routines. It just makes everyone's lives easier in our family. I also stress about anyone driving them, which RARELY happens and when it does, it's only my mom. I also am not a huge fan of sleepovers at their age, I just don't see the need.
Other than that, I am pretty relaxed.

Re: What kind of mom are you?
a ftm & ftwm, DS is 14 months old. I would say I'm uptight about certain things but laid back about certain things. I try to keep his hands clean because they're always in his mouth but otherwise I'm not too crazy about avoiding germs. Sometimes he gets organic food if it's on hand, but usually not. I feel like I hardly see him so I try to make the most of the time we're together. I want to have fun but also be strict, which I find a difficult balance but I do my best, I don't want him growing up to be a brat so I know discipline is important even at a young age, even though I don't always know the best way to enforce it. I mostly have no idea what I'm doing as far as raising a kid, so I just do my best. He's never gone to any classes, so he just plays at home (or if we go to the park- but he stays in the stroller mostly because he doesn't really walk on his own yet), I try to engage with him & teach him things but also give him time to play on his own with his toys. I don't know if I'm really a "type" of mom, just trying to make it through, do the best I can for him & enjoy him as much as possible.

Re: What kind of mom are you?
I'd say I'm a laid back mom. I have one DD who will be 2 in December and due with in March.
DH and I are both retail parents and try to work oppositte schedules so we can make baby sitting a little easier and less costly. I am often home alone with dd in the evenings until DH gets home at 10 at night. It's hard, we miss a lot of family time. We work hard and do the best we can. I let her watch tv and use the iPad, we eat healthy overall, but I might give her a prepackaged gerber meal or heat up chicken nuggets in the microwave for dinner. We don't hover over her, I let her explore. Kids get hurt, they get sick.
I know we aren't perfect but we are doing the best we can. She is fed, clothed, clean, and loved. She is happy, smart, and well adjusted. I always say that since becoming a mom I am eating my words on quite a few things I thought I'd "never" do lol.

I'm a regular old mom
Pretty laid back. We eat candy sometimes and sometimes the clothes stay in the dryer overnight The house can be a mess and sometimes I catch my twins dancing on my table hugging and the next second fist fighting
I get nervous when it comes to eating and still cut their food up small but it's my paranoia
We are stressed out and tired in a way I can't explain My kids will be 2 next month and my daughter has never sttn Sometimes they drive me to a wall and some says I cry
But most days are filled with fun and laughs and kisses goodnight and as crazy as every day is,even the bad ones...it is the best time of my life and I am lucky to have them
(But a nights sleep would be awesome lol)

Re: What kind of mom are you?
I also want to add I'm not super mom from Facebook who has a immaculate house and a 5 star meal on the table
The kids made crafts today after we all jogged 3 miles
We try to end each dAy with all of us healthy and breathing
According to most moms on my fb feed,I would be a awful mom.
And the best part is,I don't care what they think

I just can't get on board with the modern way of parenting. My kid will know he's not perfect and he can't win everything and its perfectly fine to lose at activities. I will make sure his does not feel entitled to everything like most of the kids today. I think my parents did an amazing job raising my sis and I. They gave us just enough to feel lucky but not entitled.
This, I agree with!

Re: What kind of mom are you?
I'm a "No clue W TF I'm doing mom". By nature im my own worse critic and very hard on my self. So I'll second guess and wonder how bad im screwing my kid up. Lol
I'm very rigid and a drill sergeant when it comes to School, Manners/Respect and extra curricular activies. I'm strict with food in terms of limiting candies and junk food. But to be honest this is kind of selfish becuase I lost a lot of weight a few years back, so by nature I try to have healthy snack to avoid becoming a fat beast. I do give him mcDs etc as a treat or if we are rushing or let him go to town at parties or when he isn't with me.
I'm lax in terms of allowing him to go on school trips and leaving him, I don't do yearly Bday parties, I'm not a PTA- class mom type person, and my DS understand we won't be going to classmate bdays or parties at the school type things. I've taken him to family friendly bars to watch football and the strict healthy eating mom becomes have more ice cream and fries so I can watch the game. So I guess im also a hypocrite!

My DS is almost 3. I am a FTWM and my DH worls FT and has a side business.
We are the furthest from Helicopter parents. DS plays on his own and with us and others as needed. He is happy to sit and play by himself or go help DH in the garage.
Food - def no organic and he eats what we have or doesn't eat.
Germs - the more the merrier - well not really but hes a daycare kid and was sick for his first year and I don't go crazy when he comes home and wash him down or change his clothes. He now has a healthy immune system and hardly gets sick.
I just can't get on board with the modern way of parenting. My kid will know he's not perfect and he can't win everything and its perfectly fine to lose at activities.
