How am I going to get DD to poop on the potty??
She's in underwear all day, goes when she needs to go (pee) never has accidents, etc. I put a diaper or pull up on over night just in case but as soon as she gets up she gets underwear back on. The problem is, everyday she asks for a diaper to poop in. She is deathly afraid of pooping on the potty. I remember DS not wanting to at first but nothing like this. DD is 3 1/2. I tried reward system and it didn't work. Ideas?

I went through this with my son.
Honestly when they are ready they are ready.
I didn't push it at all because he started to hold it and wouldn't even go in a diaper.
One day he just couldn't hold it anymore and he just went on the potty.
It was heartbreaking.
Ever since he has been amazing!

Honestly when they are ready they are ready.
I didn't push it at all because he started to hold it and wouldn't even go in a diaper.
One day he just couldn't hold it anymore and he just went on the potty.
It was heartbreaking.
Ever since he has been amazing!
Thanks, I feel like if she just does it once she will be over the fear. She always asks me if it's easy lol.

The ped recommended I give him miralax when he started holding it. I used it for 2 weeks until I knew the "fear" was gone

my friend had this issue with her dd. For almost a year she would only poop in a diaper. She saw a kid poop at school on hte potty came home, said I have to poop, went in the potty and never looked back.
I wouldn't push it.. Let her poop in the diaper until she's ready. My friend went through all sorts of stomach issues trying to train her.
Her dr said when she's ready she will. and he also said it will take a year and it did lol

I had the same problem. She kept going in the underwear, but I refused to put a diaper back on her. We tried everything, rewards, etc. Nothing worked, took about a month. The first time she did it, it was at school. We took her out to celebrate, came home and she did it in her pants.  After that, she got the hang of it pretty quickly

Take heart- it took DD to just after FOUR years old but one day it just clicked.
I thought it would NEVER happen.
She would pee fine on the potty, NEVER have a pee accident, sleep all night with no pull up and never once wet the bed.
But the pooping- NOTHING helped. Sticker charts, rewards, punishment, nothing.
She wouldn't even ask for a diaper or pull up- she would hold it until she couldn't anymore and then poop in her underwear.
It was awful
We started her on Miralax because she was horribly constipated and once she saw it didn't hurt to go anymore that seemed to help.
One day she just went in the bathroom on her OWN and came out proclaiming she did poopy on the potty!
I have never been so happy to see a shitt in my life! I think DH and i popped the champagne!

Could have written this word for word... potty trained DD at 3 and she started peeing on the potty like a superstar.. she didn't poop on the potty until 8 months later! She was scared of it, we tried EVERYTHING, she always asked for a diaper when she had to poop. Then one day she accidentally pushed a poop out, said "wow, that wasn't scary at all" and never looked back. Good luck!

This was my DD 100%. She was a little over 4 before she got pooping on the potty down. We were desperate so I tried something I saw online. Just an idea if you want to give it a shot.
For a week I let her poop in her pull-up but it had to be in the bathroom. Then the next week she could still go in the pull-up but had to sit on the toilet (to get used to sitting and going). Then the next week we cut a hole in the back of the pull-up and called them magic diapers/pull-ups. She had to wear that and go so essentially she was going on the potty but still had the security of the pull-up. Then about a week or so later, we ditched the pull-ups (we were out and I told her I wasn't buying anymore) and told her it was just an invisible pull-up and with a little convincing, she did it and never looked back!
You may want to try this but she'll get it eventually, don't worry.

This as well - except a couple of time we pushed him and he held it an finally he couldn't anymore and he did poop on the potty. We thought that would be it and we all celebrated and he was happy and he got to watch a movie and other things but the next day "I need to hide" (that's what he'd tell us when he wanted a pull up.) We tried to wait it out again but he was sooo upset and in obvious pain. We just decided to wait for him to be ready (but then had to basically tell him to poop in a swim diaper since we'd told him we didn't have anymore pull-ups and we didn't want to be caught liars. He didn't want to do it in that but finally relented.)
One morning, a couple of months later, he came into my room and said "I did poopy on the potty" and I said "Oh, really - is it still there?" (he had been known to tell us he did it but flushed it so we couldn't see - but admitted he hadn't) but he said yes and sure enough - we had success! We were SOOO excited!!! Seriously, if it wasn't 6:30 AM I might have broken out a bottle of champagne!!
After that - he never looked back - it was the weirdest thing!

Thanks everyone! Glad to know this is so common! Frustrating! I'll keep trying but not going to make her (or myself) nuts.. yet  .

We just washed underwear for a few months & repeated poop goes in the potty.
Even emptied poop into potty from underwear & showed ourselves pooping.
Eventually, he just pooped.
