Infant with a cold
Any tips on what I can do to help alleviate my baby's cold, especially congestion...he is 14 weeks? I have a humidifier running, put Vicks on his chest, used saline nose spray. This is the first time he is sick and I feel so bad!!!

Humidifier, Vicks plug in vapor nightlight, Vicks baby rub, saline, nose frida. Steam up bathroom and sit with them for a few minutes at a time. Lots of fluids. It will just run it's course. Keep their head elevated as much as possible.

Re: Infant with a cold
Also call your doctor if you haven't already. If it's more than a cold at that age, it's very serious. My then 3 month old DS was in the ER in July with what I thought was a cold. Ped. Didn't like the sound in his lungs. He ended up having RSV. My DD was hospitalized at 7 months for a week with pneumonia. I thought it was a cold at first.
Hope your peanut feels better soon!

Thanks for the tips. DS actually had his 3 month "well" visit today...I guess you could call it good timing. How long do colds tend to last with babies...5-7 days like in adults?

It could be longer. My ds has had colds for weeks.

Re: Infant with a cold
My kids tend to have colds for 7-10 days. Sometimes a little longer. My DD2 got her first cold at 6 weeks--winter baby with an older sibling in nursery school (fortunately, no fever or she would've ended up in the ER with a spinal tap at that age). I took her to the ped to have them listen to her chest (it was clear). At home, I used humidifier and saline drops in her nose with the aspirator. Their colds usually "peak" after a few days or so and then start to gradually get better.

I don't know why, but Vicks on the feet as well as the chest helps. Saline drops, nose frida snot sucker, and humidifier. Hope he feels better!
