newborn not pooping
im pumping and adding similac alimentum to the bottle... but like for 3 days she hasnt pooped..she does pee tho.. so i thought let me go back to the other formula gerber soothe that i was using before to see if that makes her poop but nutin... what should i do... she will be a month old on tues

I wouldn't switch around formulas too much. It's normal for babies to not poop daily. Is she uncomfortable? If she seems ok I'd leave it alone for up to 5 days. You could also call the ped. At 2 months they told me to do .5 oz of prune juice and .5 oz of water 1 or 2 times daily. I'd check with your doctor though.

A couple of tricks we have used are:
Move her legs in a bicycle motion for 30-45 seconds
Bring her knees up to her stomach about 15 times over a minute
A little Vaseline on the tip of a rectal thermometer and insert just the tip a couple of times.

Is she uncomfortable? My DS is EBF and has gone up to 10 days without a bowel movement. My doctor said if he's not uncomfortable, it's not a problem.

Use the thermometer. If she is on alimentum for milk protein allergy you shouldn't switch to a milk based.

She Is on alimentum for colic..
Im.going to wait till monday call doc n try the thermometer

Check with your doc but when dd was born she only pooped once a week. They told me not to worry unless she was struggling or straining when pooping. I did end up switching to a sensitive formula anyway and it got a little more normal thereafter...

I wouldn't worry. My ebf dd went 7-8 days and doc said it was normal. Don't mess around w formula if baby is otherwise happy :)

DS has never been an everyday pooper. But since we brought him home we've given him prune juice daily. This was okay'd by the nicu team. Started with about an ounce when he was 7 weeks (that's when he came home from hospital. They would use stimulation to get home to go in the nicu). Gave it to him straight before eating. Now I mix it Into his juice daily, probably about 4 ounces a day. Still not an everyday pooper but he doesn't have as hard a time going when he does.
