Wish I saw this when I was a new mom! PURPLE crying
When my DS was a few weeks old he started the crying sessions that never seemed to end. They were frustrating and I remember needing so much emotional support dealing with it.
I found this link in an article about shaken baby syndrome. PURPLE in an acronym for the crying fits babies have.
Hope this helps any mom of an infant!

This IS pretty good.
I remember thinking it was teething... took my kid to the ped & she just explained as is written, it stinks, your kid will be OK & it's going to end.

I will print this out and give to my MIL. She insists that there is something wrong with DC, even though my 2nd DC did the same exact thing and he is perfectly fine now. Thanks.

Isn't this basically how they describe colic?

Re: Wish I saw this when I was a new mom! PURPLE crying
Yes I thought colic was defined as prolonged periods of crying for no medical reason.
I feel like DD had this because she cried all the time as an infant, never slept more than 20 min at a stretch and screamed for hours. The peds couldn't find anything wrong. We did switch bottles and formula, thinking it was gas etc but nothing really helped.
I remember watching the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD and one thing the Dr on it said that really stuck with me was that the first 3 months of life is what he considered the "4th Trimester". He said the babies aren't really ready to come out into the world after 9 months of gestation, but that they have to because they are getting too big to be inside any longer and that the conditions in the uterus are starting to degrade at that point. So they are kind of forced out into the real world with underdeveloped digestive tracts, etc. He claims that explains a lot of their crying, upset and discontent in those first 3 months...they just aren't ready- physically or cognitively to be dealing with life outside the comfort of the womb

I remember my ped saying something similar to me and it made sense. Doesn't help stop the crying, but it helps you cope a little knowing that it will pass eventually. maybe

Yes, Ds did this too. He was also colic.
When DS was born, they made every new parents go to a PURPLE class for 1 hour prior to being able to check out of the hospital. To be honest, I found it unnecessary.
