This mom is gonna hate me, right??
DS is invited to a bday party for a boy who was in his nursery school class last year. The boy is turning 4 and has a sister who just turned 1. The boy is very into super Heroes, and I saw a Spider-Man Lego Junior set, so I got that for him as his gift. Then I thought about the baby in the house, and the small parts.... The mom is gonna hate me, right? Should I exchange it??

I would just give the gift receipt. I personally wouldn't return them I would just monitor where my DS played with them

Our DC are 3 years apart as well. During the "shove everything in your mouth" stage, we still made sure that DS was able to play with age-appropriate stuff for him, while keeping DD safely away from them. We didn't think it was fair to always make DS play with 1 year old toys just because DD had to. I wouldn't stress about it. Let the mom decide if her 4yo can play with it or not. Worst case scenario, she puts it away in the closet until the choking hazard stage is over.

She will not. The lego set can be used under supervised play - while baby is napping and all put away. I have a 4 and 5 year old and a 10 month old. They still get to use there legos - we are just more cautious.

Re: This mom is gonna hate me, right??
thanks, everybody! DS is an only child so far so I don't know but I'm thinking you're right- the mom is pretty laid back, so I'm sure she'll just make sure the baby doesn't get to them. Shes home with them part-time- so I figure the days shes home she can do the legos with him while the baby naps or whatever.

My DS has a ton of small legos, and he knows he can't play with them when is younger sister is around.
Lego junior isn't so bad since the parts are bigger than regular legos, just not as big as Duplo.

This.
I always feel parents know their children well enough to manage them.
Heck sometimes I show up and didn't realize they HAD other siblings! younger AND older!

My DS is 6 and a lot of people gave him lego sets for his big brother gift. I didn't hate anyone :)

Re: This mom is gonna hate me, right??
My kids are 6, 5 and 2 months old. I certainly won't get rid of my older kids toys because of the baby. I will likely have things with smaller parts stored and played with in their own rooms rather than the toy room when the baby can get around. My older kids would probably pack their bags and leave if I got rid of their stuff because of the baby... has sibling rivalry written all over it. Lol. We already keep some toys in each girl'so own room to cut down on the "that's MY toy and I don't want you breathing near it".

They are the same size as regular legos, just a little easier for smaller kids to put together.
When DS 2 was younger, DS 1 would just play with them in another room or when DS 2 was napping.
