DD gagging on food?

We started giving our DD pureed fruits and veggies at 7.5 months, prior to that she was EBF. Now at almost 10 months, we are trying to give her chunkier fruits and veggies and she gags. What should I do?

DD gagging on food?

She might not be ready. My DD gagged/vomited at around that age when I tried to give her chunkier food. I waited a month or so, tried again, and she was good.

Re: DD gagging on food?

Are you giving her pieces of food, or pieces in the puree, like a stage 3? Lots of babies hate the mixed textures and skip right to small pieces of table food.

Gagging is ok, as long as she's not choking. Her mouth/tongue are just learning what to do with chunkier foods.

Like Jackie said, try offering her pieces of soft food (like banana chunks) separate from purees.

Re: DD gagging on food?

What are you giving her? Stage 3 jars are tough. I would try really soft finger foods one small piece at a time. I have found these foods break down the easiest:

Beans, Kix, Cheerios, mozzarella cheese, peas, banana, mango, watermelon, Try those.

I wouldn't be concerned with an occasional gag, but if it was with every spoonful I might try smaller pieces, less food or try again in a few weeks.

Re: DD gagging on food?

It takes a while for them to get used to textures.
DD used to gag on puffs and end up puking them up
Keep offering it- she will learn and get used to it.

Re: DD gagging on food?

Don't mix purees and solids. Just give her tiny pieces of solid and keep trying. Maybe try the puffs that melt in their mouths.... It takes time to get use too.

ITA. We never did stage 3 foods. DS had no problems going to crunchy foods that dissolve, like puffs or yogurt melts.
