Gagging on table food..anyone?

Does anyone elses child gag no matter what they eat (besides baby food).

No matter what I put in Megans mouth, she gags. Makes me a nervous wreck cause I always think shes on the verge of choking. She doesnt seem to lke ANYTHING with texture at all.

I dont know why she is gagging, is she not ready for table foods yet. She is 10 months old and I see all the food other babies are eating, she has no interest at all. My doctor did say not to push it. Hes all for waiting for more teeth (she only has the bottom 2 right now.)

Anyone have this problem?

I had this problem up until a few weeks ago right after he turned 1.

The ped said it was fine. I just waited a little longer and tried again and he ate table food finally without gagging.

I was getting soo worried. But he finally did it on his own timeChat Icon

Andrew only has 4 teeth.

I don't think teeth make any difference in table food eating at all. Some children just have a hard time adjusting to texture like you said. You can either keep trying to give it to her, or wait a few weeks and try again. Sometimes I wish Lauren would eat baby food so I knew she was getting some nutrition, but she refuses and is on table food and messy at that!!

My 8 month DD gags sometimes. I just started giving her foods with more consistency. I guess the key is to take it really slow. I just started making her mashed sweet potatoes. I leave it thicker with some small lumps. I do the same with making her applesauce and bananas. She's been getting a little better with the gagging.

Andy's going to be 1 in 2 weeks and he does this all the time. It's awful. The ped said not to make a big deal out of it, he'll figure it out in time. So we stick with what we know he can handle and then every so often add something new in to see what happens.
