gagging/yacking on table food
DD will be 10 months Friday and so far the only "table food" she'll have is the puffs. Anytime I try to give her something else she gags/yacks all over the place! I want her to be able to eat her birthday cake at her 1st birthday but i feel like we won't be able to get her to eat table foods by then at this rate! That's not the only reason i want her to get the hang of table food btw . Any tips? So far we've tried pastina and cottage cheese. She did NOT want any part of either of those.

Ava was the same way. She actually yacked from eating a puff.
I just waited and kept trying with her until she was ready. Jack would have eaten pizza at 6 months
I would wait another 2 weeks and try again. She may just not be ready

Like just a slice ripped into small pieces? Thank you for your suggestion, but I don't think she'll go for it or be able to chew it up well enough since she only has her 2 bottom teeth. I will add it to my list though and try again I think in another week or two!

ITA! It is DDs favorite. They really don't need to chew it. DD sorta slurps it down even when teh pieces aren't that small. Also, what are you mixing with the pastina? I use melted american and again she loves it!

Re: gagging/yacking on table food
DS was exactly the same way, and I kept thinking something was wrong with him since the other kids his age seemed to be wolfing down all kinds of chewy stuff. At 10 months, he would gag on half a puff or Cheerio. Someone suggested scrambled eggs or bits of cheese, but he had trouble with those initially too. I started watering down the eggs, and then he could eat those.
His pediatrician wasn't worried about it at 12 months, so I decided I shouldn't be either. I started taking two week breaks and then trying foods again with him. Sometime around 13 months, he could finally eat small pieces of food without gagging or throwing up. Now at 15 months, he shovels it in, no problem.
I think some kids just aren't ready as early as others. Try watered down eggs if there is no allergy issue, and give other foods a break. DS couldn't eat American cheese initially either, though you might give it a try.

Yes, just rip off maybe a dime sized piece. Ryan is just now getting his 4th tooth - but he's been eating it since he had just a 1/2 tooth. He screams for joy when he sees it coming out of the fridge Do you do cheerios?

Re: gagging/yacking on table food
Cailen gagged on real food until way after his 1st bday - everything had to be cut in teeny pieces - even still, he gags on things that kids his age should be fine with by now....

Re: gagging/yacking on table food
She may not be ready yet, but it doesn't hurt to keep trying different foods to see what interests her since she seems okay with puffs. DS still has no teeth, but he's pretty good at gumming his food. Today he had wheat bread (torn into small pieces) with hummus and baba ghanoush I agree with trying cheese or cheerios. I bought a block of cheddar cheese and used a cheese slicer to make really thin strips. It melted in his mouth pretty easily.
