2yr old question on self soothing
DD is going to be 2 this weekend. Ever since she was an infant she pulls her shirt shoulder up to her cheek for comfort when shes tired. I have noticed that lately like when we are in the supermarket she wants to hold my arm specifically to pinch the fabric on my sleeve. In the morning if she is in my bed she has to pinch the material on my shirt. If she isnt allowed to feel the material she freaks out. I tried to substitute with a Aden& Anais lovey blanket but she wants to use that for her babies. Is this something kids go thru?
Is this something she will grow out of? Or is this something i need to watch?

Re: 2yr old question on self soothing
Is it a specific material she likes? Maybe try and find a little blankie that she can soothe herself with.
My DD has had a blankie since she was a few months old (she's 5.5 yo now) and she can't be without it when she's tired. She loves the cold satin against her cheek when she sleeps.
Now my DS has taken to a blankie as well, same thing........loves the cold satin.
I would give her a few blankie options with different fabrics and textures and let her gravitate to what she likes best. There is nothing wrong with a kid having a blankie or some other soothing object.

ITA.
DH had a blanket he liked when he was a kid. Even now, when he's stressed out, I sometimes see him subconsciously rubbing a soft material, to de-stress himself. It's fine! It's not like he carries a blankie around to work with him all day!

2yr old question on self soothing
I think it is normal. My DD has one of those blankies with a stuffed animal head...I don't know how to explain it..lol.
But one side is satin and the other side is a really soft material. She rubs the satin material between her fingers as she falls asleep.
I used to do the same thing with a sheet when I was younger.
