1 year old making self vomit?
Sorry for crashing, but I figure this is the best place to ask this. My 1 year old niece, since yesterday, is sticking her fingers down her throat until she vomits. Today she got upset and then proceeded to do it. My Dad flipped out and had to leave the room. She actually chased after him while she was doing it, which makes me think it's just for attention. I wasn't with her yesterday when she did it, but my sister-in-law said she did it and she just ignores her and lets her do it because she doesn't want to reinforce the behavior by giving her attention (which I agree with). She has her 1 year well visit Monday and will ask the doc about it, but did anyone else's child do this? How long did the phase last? Thanks!

My son still does this and he is now 2. I don't know that he does it for attention but it will do it from time to time.

Re: 1 year old making self vomit?
I'm going through the same exact thing as you are. DD doesn't do it all the time. I think she's doing it for attention, because when I tell her no or give any reaction, she laughs and wants to do it more. I was giving her her binky, but its just going to cause another problem when I try to wean her off of it. Now, I'll just give her a wet washcloth. I've learned not to react, it took a while, but it was wearing me down. Since I've stopped reacting, she still will put her hands in her mouth, but she's not making herself sick. I just hope that its a short faze.

DS did this around that age. It was so tough to watch. But he did it for attention. As hard as it is, ignore it. If she vomits, don't get angry, just clean and go about your day. Ignoring should stop it within one week.

Re: 1 year old making self vomit?
Ok, just as I suspected. My sister-in-law is ignoring her behavior, so I just hope she stops soon. My Dad watches her during the week and I don't think he's capable of ignoring it. I think she scarred him for life today.
Thanks for the replies!!
