TMI Gross -- Post C-Section Infection

For moms that suffered infection from a csection, just wondering how long your recovery ended up being?

My incision fortunately is still closed, but started oozing pus about one week post c-section. I headed to the OB, they drained it a bit (by putting pressure on wherever the oozing was coming from), cleaned it up, and told me to keep it as dry as possible, and have been using surgical dressings and prescribed doxy(something)cyclin antibiotic.

I went back about three days later, and the incision is still closed, pus is subsiding, and seeing the OB again next week -- same story, keep taking the antibiotic, keep it dry, use the surgical dressings.

I've now been home one week after discharge and the pus is still draining -- fortunately the physical swelling has gone down significantly, but how long will this oozing continue? Just wondering what other moms' experiences are. Should I be concerned? Should I be looking further than my OB?

It's just completely frustrating b/c I want to be in better shape to care for my twins, and at this point, it's just another bump in the road preventing me from doing it 100% on my own.

I don't have experience with infection, but don't hesitate to call the Dr and ask them how long it could take to heal and if there is anything else you can do to speed the process...maybe a stronger antibiotic? Ultimately rest is probably the best thing to let your body heal... Much easier said than done!! Hopefully you heal up soon! Chat Icon

My SIL had an infection from her c-section and they found she had a stitch that didn't dissolve and they had to remove it. I would call your doctor to ease your mind and maybe they can give you something stronger

I would say if its still actively draining pus 1 week after starting antibiotics and not just like mild serous discharge I would have them recheck it!

Did you get stitches or staples just curious? I have no experience with the infection after surgery but the antibiotics should do the trick as long as it's draining.
I hope you feel better

Stitches inside, outside w/the steri-strips/tape.
