First IUI scheduled for Monday...

Hi ladies,

I met with my new obgyn yesterday and he said we should try an IUI on Monday. No meds or shots just go in with specimen, wash and insert.

Has anyone been successful with this type of procedure? We’ve been ttc for 14 months. I had an HSG last month and ovulate on my own. My husband has low motility. He feels confident this will work for us. I’m trying not to get my hopes up to high but I’m really really hoping this will work for us.

Re: First IUI scheduled for Monday...

Ive done IUIs both with and without meds Ive done them twice in one cycle - 2 times - (worked around drs availability and my cycle) but I always felt like 2 was better than one right? Good Luck on Monday!

Re: First IUI scheduled for Monday...

We had a successful first IUI to conceive DD. It was the month after my HSG too - supposedly, that procedure opens up your tubes a bit and makes you more fertile for a couple of months. Good luck!!!

Wait, just read it again: why would you have one on Monday and on Wednesday? Are you so unsure of when you ovulate? Why would the OB/GYN do an IUI at all if he doesn't know when you're ovulating? Some doctors do back-to-back IUI's in case they're off by a few hours, but two days apart, I never heard of. I go to an RE though (a reproductive endocrinologist - a fertility doctor), not an OB-GYN. Getting you pregnant isn't really an OB-GYN's territory; it's an RE's. The OB-GYN takes care of you *after* you're pregnant.

I was wondering that too! He said since I ovulate on my own and am typically 28-32 days he would do the two days to be sure, maybe even a third. I was concerned that he wasn't monitoring my ovulation so I still did my wondfos at home and got a positive yesterday before leaving for the appointment. He said we'll try this method for two months before sending me to an RE.

Please go see an RE. Ob are not trained in this. You need to be monitored

If this doesn’t work then I’m off to see an RE. He seemed confident and has everything in the office. There were no meds involved which I was happy with. Would like to conceive as naturally as possible and am really hoping this was the answer for us.

An re can do unmedicated but monitored cycles too. Their labs for washing the sperm are also typically better. Good luck!
