Those with GD- anyone have trouble with morning fasting numbers
This is crazy..... My daytime PRE and post meals are perfect. Never high. Sometimes even low. I am following the diet and have no issues with my daytime numbers. No meds needed. However my morning fasting numbers and consistently over 100. They range from 99-107. I was started on 8 units is NPH then she increases me to 10 and still I haven't seen an improvement. I am supoosed to call tomorrow morning if numbers haven't improved.
I'm getting so frustrated! I've done the nighttime snack, moved up my dinner time... Everything. I consistently check at 630am.
Why would the insulin not be working?
ETA does stress have anything to do with it? I'm super stressed right now. Looks like we sold our house (which is a good thing) but we have not found a place to move to yet and I really only wanted to do one move and I'm due right around when we are closing. In such limbo right now, haven't done a nursery (Bc we are moving) but we don't have our new place, so my mind is all over the place!!!

Re: Those with GD- anyone have trouble with morning fasting numbers
I had GD with both of my pregnancies and my morning fasting numbers were always higher than what it was supposed to be. I was eating the right things, testing, etc. I was on insulin too. With me, I kept having to go up on insulin and then also wound up having to take morning insulin too. Don't feel like this is your fault. You have GD due to the pregnancy. There is not much you can do except continuing your diet, watching your blood sugars, and taking insulin. I remember my nutritionist told me the fasting and breakfast sugars are usually harder to control especially as you get further along.

Re: Those with GD- anyone have trouble with morning fasting numbers
my fasting #'s were high so they put me on the pill glyburide at night. My #'s became good for fasting but my late night #'s were too high so I'm on it twice a day now.
what I found with this pill was if I took it with dinner (my last meal) my #'s were very high in the morning. I tried taking it right before bed with a glass of water and my #'s were awesome. Do you have to take the insulin with food or can you try it without?

I had occasional higher fasting numbers as high as 106. I was put on 1000mg of metformin at night which have stabilized them.

I thought the insulin would be stronger than the pill. I'm wondering if the pill might be better. It's ONLY my Mornjng fast. I run in 70s -80s PRE emails and 100-120 1 hour post and 90-100 2 hours post.
I don't get it.

My doctor said I could do metformin or insulin and I chose the pill over the needle.
ETA: It just happens. It's the way your body is reacting to the pregnancy. Nothing you can really do about it. I know you're stressed over it but stressing about it isn't going to do anything good. I have occasional high numbers, doctors are still thrilled, and my baby is measuring close to perfect and I've been dealing with this for the past 24w. Some things are just out of our control.

I just saw my dr Monday night and he said my belly is measuring 3" larger than it should be but I when I went for my growth scan last week the baby was weighing 3lbs 13 ozs and Madonna said she's right on track. Have you been told anything wonky?

No. They don't usually go into specifics. They tell me her approx. weight and tell me everything looks fine lol.
This week they did tell me that her belly is measuring slightly ahead of her head which is GD related but still within a normal range so they're not concerned at all. He said that's how they can tell whether or not the GD is being maintained well or not and that the #'s are just a guideline.

Re: Those with GD- anyone have trouble with morning fasting numbers
I know the feeling about the house and the GD. First my Keytones were bad and my BS was <90. Then, my numbers were high in the morning and my keytones were ok. the Dietician said increase the carbs during the day and that may help level out the keytones.
I did that but then my # high still in the am. They said for last snack have some ice cream (3.6oz of choc, van or straw Hagan Daz). which i did and it seemed to work. they were going to put me on glyburide but my #s evened out.
Good luck, it will all work out. we wound up renting in between selling and buying and it wasnt so bad.

Re: Those with GD- anyone have trouble with morning fasting numbers
Right I was given the option as well. I went with the insulin. I am a RN wasn't concerned about administering it etc. Just surprised that I have great numbers all through the day. But this one fasting number everyday has me baffled. I was told I was so borderline diabetic to begin with. I changed my diet but nothing was so earth- shattering.
So upset

This sounds like me exactly! All of it! I had to start insulin and did 10 units for the first time last night and came down but not under 90 yet...will give it one more day I guess then call but I was also told that having to increase over time was showing a healthy pregnancy..try not to get frustrated and know you're doing what you need to for baby

Re: Those with GD- anyone have trouble with morning fasting numbers
I had GD twice and always had problems with my morning numbers. The insulin isn't working because you haven't found the right dose yet and even when you do, you will likely still increase the dosage as your pregnancy progresses.
Stress has nothing to do with it, GD.is all hormonal.

Thanks everyone I feel a little better after reading its not me or JUST me! I thought ... Put on insulin... Boom numbers when I wake up are normal. I was scared I was doing something to cause this. Very frustrating.

It's nothing you're doing, definitely not just you.
You would be shocked to hear how frequently I was adjusting my insulin dosages, sometimes it was day to day. GD is a pain in the butt. At least here is a light at then end of the tunnel.
