Weaning off of bottles

DD just turned one and is taking two bottles/day (one at wake up and one at bedtime). She is getting still a mix of formula and milk (hope to be all milk by next week!).

She will not take milk from her straw cup and cries for the bottle at these times.

She won't take milk at mealtimes either.

Thoughts on how to wean off the bottle? I'm fine with a timeline that may take a few months - hoping to have her totally off by 18 mos.

Offer sippy during day & dinner ..put less milk/formula in bottles am : pm

I have the sippy with handles right now i put water in it (give for practice) but eventually will put BM in it when she learns & weans off full time bottles (she is 6.5 m old)

Does she do water in the sippy cup?

My girls tale water all day in the sippy from the straw cups, but they like to lay down with bottles in am and pm with their milk. So I've been letting them walk around with water in the other type of sippy so they can learn to use it. Then I'll give milk. I don't give milk in the straw one b/c it leaks.

Weaning off of bottles

In the beginning I only gave water in the sippy cup for DS to practice. Once he got the hang of it, I started putting milk in the sippy too. I use the same brand of sippy cup but different colors - yellow sippy is water, blue sippy is milk.

I tried weaning him from the bottle at 13 months but he wasn't ready. I stopped and just continued giving only water in the sippy. I tried again at 15 months and it went pretty smoothly. Sometimes they just need a little more time.

She has been doing water from a straw cup for quite some time now. We never did sippy, had gone straight to straw. It may be that she is not ready to give up her bottle! Or I'm wondering if she'd be more apt to take the milk from a sippy cup vs. straw cup because it's a little more like the bottle.
