Success BF only at night?
DS will be 1 next week. I plan on starting to transition him to whole milk for his daycare bottles. Ideally I'd like to keep nursing at home in the evening and in the morning.
Some friends have said my body will adjust and just produce when I need it. But they've never actually gone through doing it. Anyone have any success with nursing only at night without pumping at all during the day?

Re: Success BF only at night?
thats pretty much what happened to me. i noticed that i no longer really needed to pump as i had been every day once my DD turned 1. at that point i nursed her morning and night only, and once she hit 14 months it became night only. at 18 months i stopped nursing completely. my body adapted on its own, and i never had sore boobs or anything.
good luck!

I did for a few months. At that point, he'll just get whatever you make. It's not a main source of nutrition anymore, I assume he'll be drinking some sort of milk during the day.
Make sure you wean from the pump slowly. Drop one pump session every couple of days or you'll be really uncomfortable.

Success BF only at night?
This has been working for me so far. I started to wean off of pumping at work a month before DD turned 1 (I had been pumping 3x a day). This allowed me to stop pumping without any issues and slowly introduce DD to soy milk (allergic to dairy). The Friday before her 1st birthday was the last day I pumped and we've been nursing every morning and evening ever since, about 2 weeks now.
I'm not sure how long I will continue to nurse, but I don't mind it now. I might just keep it up until I dry up completely or DD weans herself.

Thanks so much!! I have cut my pumping sessions at work already. I was pumping 3x; but now I just pump 2x. I'm giving him whole milk during the day along with his breastmilk.
I can't wait to not have to carry my pump to work with me every day!

I pumped and nursed until DS was 1 years old. We introduced whole milk at around a year, but DS still nursed 2 x a day, mornings and at night (although I think he was totally ready to wean at 12 months completely), until he was 15 and 1/2 months old.

Re: Success BF only at night?
I stopped pumping at work around 13 months and continued to nurse in the AM, before bed, and at naptime on weekends for a long time. I was down to just morning and bedtime around 18-20 months, and morning only around 22-23 months. We're now down to 1-2 mornings a week at 27 months. My body adjusted and I havent gotten engorged in well over 6+ months, which is super convenient. Oh, and I also weaned the right side at 10 months

Re: Success BF only at night?
My supply really tanked when I went to morning and night (which is fine after a year anyway). He would suck and suck and was only getting a small amount at the end, eventually he lost interest and was way more thrilled with a 5 oz bottle of soymilk then working really had to get 1/2 an oz at the boob. At that point it was fine because I was happy to wean around that point. Usually when people are down to once a day BFing or a just a few times a week it is more for nuturing vs actually getting a lot of nutrition.

This was similar to my experience. We went down to once a day by 14-15 months and eventually DD was nursing just a few minutes most of the time. She wanted to pick things back up again right at the same time AF showed for the first time and it was really frustrating for her bc my supply had gone down to almost nothing. I ended up weaning completely once things went down hill which I was okay with at 16 months.

Thanks! I didn't get a chance to pump my 2nd time today! So only 1 pump session in 9+ hours. But luckily I don't feel full or engorged. I may have to pump when I get home tonight though.

My daughter is 14 mos and seems to be naturally weening and I haven't been full or engorged in awhile and it is great! Your body will definitely adjust.
I am now at once a day and really not producing a ton, like 1 oz, so I may be done completely real soon.

Sorry.... didn't mean to be a jerk. It's just that he is now 27 months, and I am ready to be DONE, but he is not. And I am not willing to put up the fight that I know it will be at this point to wean him. Plus, he is up a lot during the night wanting to nurse. I just want to sleep BY MYSELF! lol! End rant.

Oh no I COMPLETELY hear you, didn't think you were being a "jerk" at all! That is a tough spot to be in (and one I was concerned about as well). Even though I was somewhat sad to give up that last feeding I would have had a really tough time with weaning if my DS hadn't helped the process along. I wish you good luck that is not easy

Re: Success BF only at night?
I did that with both boys. DS1 self weaned at 15 months, but my supply was pretty shot at that point anyway. DS2 is 17 months and still nursing. DS2 was nursing in the morning and night for a few months and then dropped down to nursing just in the morning. I can even skip a few mornings because of a hectic schedule and there are no issues.
