Family Traditions

I feel like it's a bad time to post this topic because of the holidays and all, but what non-holiday traditions and routines does your family have/you do for the kids?

Like in the fall I'd like to make it a tradition to go pumpkin picking and to the beach in the summer. But beyond that I'm at a loss as to what kinds of traditions or routines i could work into our lives...

Re: Family Traditions

My Dd is only 2, so we don't do this yet, but when I was growing up, we had Friday night family nights. My brother and I could pick a family movie (not specifically a kid movie, something my parents would like too...think Indiana Jones, Star Wars, etc) and we'd play a game and make popcorn and all hang out in the living room.

I definitely plan to do something like this when my kids are older.

So far we have gone pumpkin picking, cut our christmas tree down and trimmed it, and I plan to add a fall weekend in the Berkshires, the North Pole and weekly family days or nights as he gets older. Right now he's only 10 weeks so we have time LOL

Re: Family Traditions

We have a few:
- Strawberry picking
- Apple picking - then we make an apple pie from scratch (we go a few times to do this, but I usually make the pie only once)
- Pumpkin picking
- Beach
- Historical holiday house visits
- Gingerbread house (this was the first year but it was a huge hit so we will do it again next year, in the past we made a gingerbread train, but I like the house so much more).
- Gingerbread house tour - in Morristown, NJ the arboretum has a huge event with over 200 gingerbread houses.
- Holiday cookie baking (we do this seasonally - multiple times a year)
- We try to take a vacation together. Sometimes it is elaborate, and sometimes it is low key, but we still try to go away and do something.
- For the past 3 years we have gone to the Great Wolf Lodge, but I am not sure we are going back this year.
- I cook and bake with my kids
- I do science kit experiments with my kids
