Milk Allergy
My daughter tested positive for a ilk allergy today (almost 3 weeks old) and we started Nutramigen. For those of you who have been down tis road- did your child outgrow it? Did they have any other health complications? Ped said it will change the way we introduce foods/cereal, etc. I'm glad we found what's bothering her, but just worried about it too.

Milk Allergy
My DS had a milk protein allergy. He was on Nutramigen from 3 months until he started milk at a year. We had no problems introducing dairy (cheese, yogurt, etc)- around 8 months. 12 months he started milk and has been fine!

My oldest had it. He was diagnosed at 6 weeks old. He was EBF, so I eliminated all dairy from my diet until he was a year. At that point, we introduced him to cow's milk and had no issues.

Milk allergy at 8 weeks...started milk slowly at a year...after ped retested for the allergy. No problems.

Sorry to jump in but how did you know that your LOs had milk protein allergies? Or what made you suspect?

My one DD was on Alimentum from about 3 weeks. We had accidentally mixed up bottles around 9 mo and she was fine so we slowly switched her to sensitive formula. I started the cows milk transition at 11 mo and they were both on full milk at a year. some babies need more time though. It varies. And some can tolerate cheese and yogurt with milk allergy while some can't.
From 3 weeks - about 5.5 mo we had her on Alimentum, gas drops in every bottle and Maalox and axid 3 x per day in her bottles for reflux. It helped a bit. Dr wanted to stop her at 4.5 mo but I wanted to give it longer since she just started doing better. Just go with your gut.

DD was diagnosed at 3 months. On Alimentum until 1 year. Transitioned at that point with no issues.

My dd never had an allergy she just had an issue digesting it so she was on Alimentum. She did fine with yogurt and cheese but i had an issue with milk transition at 12 months. So my peds kept her on formula until 15 months we tried again still she drank too much milk and had trouble digesting. So now at 17 months were transitioning to almond milk.
She still dows great with yogurt and cheese she just cant digest large amounts of dairy.
Dont worry with all other foods she was totally fine. All these things work out and you fins things that work for you.

With my son, he had about 2-3 days of being unusually fussy, particularly after feedings. One evening, he was just crying uncontrollably, and seemed to really be in pain, and was only content laying on his back. That night, I changed his poopy diaper and there were specks of blood all throughout the poop (sorry for the TMI!). At that point, we called the ped, who advised us to go to the ER. We did, and after spending an overnight there, and doing every test imaginable on him, they ruled everything else out and chalked it up to a milk protein allergy. We had to put him on formula for 3 days, to give the dairy a chance to completely leave my body. Then, I went back to EBF on a complete elimination diet and he was fine. That's how we knew for sure.

My DD started having very poor formula intake, combined with arching and screaming during feedings. She was on medication for reflux and the symptoms weren't getting better. The doctor tested her diaper, and it tested positive for blood in her stool. She started on Nutramigen, but still tested positive after 3 weeks, so she was changed to Neocate. Honestly, her intake never got much better, except for small periods here and there. We tried introducing cheese and yogurt between 10 and 11 months. She was fine for 6 weeks, then had a mucousy stool again, so we stopped dairy again. We tried again around 13 months, and she was okay. She transitioned to milk at 15 months, and at almost 18 months, she's doing fine, thank goodness!

I EBF and my DD started having gross (TMI) mucousy Poopie diapers that tested positive for blood. I cut out all milk and soy from my diet and continued to EBF. We introduced cereal at 6 months and all dairy free foods normally after that. The only thing we didn't give was yogurt. At 1 we introduced cows milk and after a week or so she got a few hives. We brought her to the allergist and she tested positive for a slight milk allergy. The allergist said we could still give dairy in small amounts and that she'd outgrow it. He was right and by 15-16 months she had completely outgrown the allergy and eats everything with no problems now.
