BTDT: Placenta Previa Moms

I was told at 20 weeks that I had a complete previa and I've been monitored closely ever since. Unfortunately, it's never moved and I am scheduled for a CS this Friday at 37 weeks.

I had asked my high risk about the chance of it actually being an acreta (sp?) and she did look closely on the sono- she said it was not consistent with what you would see in an acreta, so she is pretty confident it is previa. However, she did say there is a 5% chance with all complete previas that it can turn out to be a acreta.

Today I had my final check up with my OB and she was discussing "game plan" with me for Friday. She laid it all out on the line and said she didn't want to scare me, but that I would be asked to sign papers giving her the authorization to do a hysterectomy should I need it. She promised she would do everything in her power if it came to that point to NOT give me one since this is my first child, but she did need to let me know.

Of course, I'm scared and even more emotional about this now.......has anyone needed a hysterectomy due to placenta previa?

I would concentrate on the fact that she said only 5%. That is a pretty low number and most likely you won't go that route. Try to stay positive. Sending you

I had placenta previa with DD1. It wasn't complete previa...it was marginal. I did not need a hysterectomy.
