Any use a mini crib or portable crib?

I would like to get one for DC#2 since the room is very small. I am having a hard time finding a good mattress. Most are thin and flimsy and not firm

I have the baby bjorn travel crib. Not sure if that's what you had in mind but I love it. Dd slept amazing in it her first time in it.

I have a mini crib and I have the davinci 5" mattress for mini cribs. It's great! I have to get the organic portacrib pad from BBB bc that's all that fits, and custom sized sheets from sheetworld.com

Just to add I was able to purchase (this past weekend) the breathable bumper for our mini crib at the Westbury BBB and I've purchased all of his sheets there as well. That store has great inventory whenever I've gone. I also have a 5" mattress that's very sturdy (can't recall the name brand but if you want I'll check in the morning when DS wakes up). We love our mini crib especially since we have limited space.

Yep, that's the one. I haven't had anything else to compare it to, but I don't remember having any concerns with the firmness even when she was just a 3 month old going into it (and I'm a worrywart over those sorts of things). It is not the most "solid" mattress - it's a little bit springy but I think it's the best one out there for a mini crib, and I didn't have any sort of worry over it. It's not mushy/soft (which would worry me), just a little springy.

I also forgot to add that BBB has the mini crib breathable bumpers on their website (not stocked in the stores).




I just ordered 2 others to compare it to - I guess im just trying to find the firmest one out there. And thanks for the bumper info - it seems so hard to find all the accessories to fit the crib too!

So glad to see others that have a mini crib - they seem like a great idea to me. I would love to know what mattress you have - trying to find as many options as I can. Good to know about BBB also. Do you know which sheets you get? Seems like most portable crib sheets only have pockets big enough for 2-3" mattress and not 5".

Ok so the mattress is :
Baby Mod - 50 Coil Mini-Crib Mattress

And I get the kids line potracrib jersey knit fitted sheets which measures 38" x24". Now I use these sheets with the mattress which is 5" and it works perfectly. They only thing is that there is only a few colors to pick from put it works for us. Hope this helps!!

First of all - thank you girls so much for all this info - especially with the accessories - it just seems so hard to find anything.

As for the mattress - I just googled the Baby Mod and its made by MDB which also makes the Davinci is so I think they are the same exact mattress. I emailed Baby Bargains (mostly to complain about their lack of coverage on mini cribs and to see if they recommended any mattress) and they actually replied They first recommended the 3" Colgate foam and the Davinci 50 coil as a spring. when I wrote back to question the safety of the 3" they said its fine its the firmness that counts. But I also questioned the 50 coil since they recommend 150 coils minimum for a full size crib mattress - and a mini crib is about 2/3 the size - shouldn't the minimum be about 100 coils. Then they wrote back - yes that would be correct - a 100 coil would be better Honestly makes me wonder how thorough they really are with the research they do. but anyway like PP said the 50 coil is springy but not soft so I think id feel ok using it. I will be getting the other 2 mattress today to compare so I will just choose what seems best.

I guess I will take a trip to BBB for the accessories since BRU doesn't seem to sell much that will fit (especially with the 5" mattress). I did see reviewers on one site mention using American Baby sheets and also Gerber (regular size crib sheets) but those had to be washed and shrunk (since they are poor quality and shrink a lot they fit right).

another question - where you able to find dust ruffles for the mini crib? Im thinking I can just get a full size crib one and either cut and sew or scrunch it. But would be easier to find one that just fits right to begin with.

This is where we are getting ours from. It's a bit pricey, but worth it for us to have more options. We also got the 50 coil mattress and the divinci mini crib. Hope this helps!

I love the stuff on the babybed (carousel) site but it was a little out of my budget.

Skirt: I pinned up a regular size, but sheetworld.com has skirts that aren't too expensive. You can find this company on amazon as well!

Sheets: I tried shrinking gerber ones, it didn't work. I got jersey from sheetworld but as a pp said, BBB may carry a line that may also work! If you go with a 3 in., a soft organic jersey may also stretch to fit.

Mattress pad: I can't remember the specific name but BBB has an organic one that stretches to fit the 5". It's kind of hard to find on the wall though!
