Is it ok for your child to get the mmr shot if you are pregnant?
A friend mentioned to me that it was dangerous for your child to get the mmr shot if you are pregnant. My DS is scheduled to get his next week, and i am currently 6 months pregnant. She said something about how a live virus can affect me if he ends up getting sick from it. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I've never heard it before...but want to make absolutely certain before he gets it. He just turned 2. If I wait until the baby is born he will be almost 2 1/2. Thanks for the advice!!

I would talk to your ob about it, but I have never heard of that.
Eta: I also believe that if there even was a risk (which I doubt) it would be in the first trimester

I wasn't preggo when dd got it, but I asked if she should be kept away from anyone, bc i had heard things like that too and she was going to be around a newborn and the doc said no. Can't hurt to call your OB though.

My DC got it a few weeks ago and I'm in my 3rd tri too. I thought I asked about my being pg, but I can't remember for sure.
To the OP, it's probably fine, but make sure to specifically ask, just in case.

I had my blood titters tested to see whether I was still immune to MMR and mine were fine, so it was okay for my DS to receive the MMR while I was PG with DD. If your titters are not up to date and you don't have immunity any more then I don't think it is safe to give an older DC the shots but check with your OB for sure.

Interesting, I've never heard of this. I got my DS the shot back in August when I was around 30 weeks preggo and nobody said anything to me...

I was pregnant when my ds #1 his mmr, and then pregnant again when ds #3 received his. I've never heard anything about it being a problem.

its mainly the rubella that's dangerous but if your OB did bloodwork they might have check to make sure your immune (I think this is standard). Most of us had the vaccine as children and should be immune.
Definitely check with your OB to confirm if they checked for immunity.

You need to make sure you are immune by checking Titres. I believe as long as immune it's ok. I just went through this last week Bc my DD needed her booster chicken pox vaccine. I called the OB and the big question was whether I was immune. I pulled my labs and I am immune (which I knew) therefore DD was ok to get it. Also the pediatrician said the only way it is dangerous is if I was in first trimester and not immune

The issue isnt with the MMR its with the chicken pox shot My daughter couldnt get it bc I never had chicken pox, and the shot is a live culture. Chicken pox is very dangerous to a fetus.
