Is it ok for your child to get the mmr shot if you are pregnant?
A friend mentioned to me that it was dangerous for your child to get the mmr shot if you are pregnant. My DS is scheduled to get his next week, and i am currently 6 months pregnant. She said something about how a live virus can affect me if he ends up getting sick from it. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I've never heard it before...but want to make absolutely certain before he gets it. He just turned 2. If I wait until the baby is born he will be almost 2 1/2. Thanks for the advice!!

No idea. I would just call your ped and see what they recommend. Gl

Hmm, I'm surprised everyone is saying to wait. DD just got it a few weeks ago when I was 7 months pregnant. My dr didn't mention anything. Definitely double check with the ped and make sure.

Re: Is it ok for your child to get the mmr shot if you are pregnant?
I know it's dangerous for a pregnant woman to get the MMR shot because contracting rubella while pregnant can cause birth defects. When pregnant, my bloodwork showed I didn't have rubella antibodies and I was told I would need another rubella immunization after I gave birth.
Maybe that's the reason to avoid having your older child immunized while pregnant? So you aren't exposed to it, even the tiny amount they receive in the immunization? I don't know ...

You have immunity.
I asked my ped about having a newborn exposed to another child & she said that the immunity is transferred from mama for a while.
We did have to wait with the chicken pox vaccine.
