Help with gassy and fussy baby

I have a 3 month old baby girl who suffers from what seems to be a never ending amount of gas. She has also begun to spit up and this seems to inrease with each day. I started out breast feeding but due to all kinds of issues I had to supplement with formula and finally stopped breast feeding and switched entirely to formula. Because I could not breast feed it was really important to me to find the most natural formula possible. I have been using Earth's Best and switched to Earth's Best sensitive when she was 1 month old. I have tried all differant kinds of bottles Avent, Playtex Drop ins, MAMS, and Dr. Browns. None seem to help to much with the gas. I burp her for every ounce she eats and burp her continously after feedings, throughout playtime and before naps and bedtime. She gets extremely fussy throughout the day and often times does not sleep at all during the day unless she is being held. She sleeps better at night but will still wake up throughout the night with gas pains or due to spit up. She has been tested for a milk allergy and it came back negative. She does really well during feedings but after she seems to be in alot of pain with gas and spit up issues. If anybody has an advice or reccomendatiosn it would be very much appreciated!

have you tried gripe water or gas drops?

eta - try keeping her up on an angle (get a crib wedge or something) to help if it is reflux

I have tried gripe water it didnt work. I have not tried gas drops. Her pediatrician reccomended Mylanta as needed but it doesnt consistently work. It is possible there are some reflux issues going on

my dd has major gas/colic issues the first 3-4 months. gas drops never worked. some things that did help...

-bouncing/we loved our swing when she could use it
-axid, a reflux medication. while she was never diagnosed with reflux it did help some of the symptoms she was having anyway and it is safe enough so its okay. the doctors all agree and we've spoken with 5!!

she is now 15 months old and still suffers from bloating, gas, constipation and other tummy issues. we have been seeing GI doctors still with no answers. we will be getting some blood work drawn but right now we have her on miralax powder laxative just to ease her pain...

its so hard!!! hang in there!!

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I do notice that movement really of any kind definitley soothes her. Her pediatrician did suggest trying zantac for possible reflux issues. She is going for her 3 month visit this week so I will bring it up. Thanks again :)

I know you want a natural formula, but maybe your doctor can recommend a different type/brand?

The pediatrician has not reccomended another natural formula but reccomended nutramigen. The doctor said this could cause constipation issues because of the soy. Since she also has some constipation issues on and off I have been hesitant to try this. I was thinking of trying Gerber soothe for gas and fussiness. It is not organic but I am getting desperate and really want the baby to be comfortable and for me to get some sleep lol.

Some of it sounds pretty typical - like the spitting up or not wanting to sleep unless being held. But if your baby is really in pain, I'd try the Zantac. DS had reflux and was like a new baby after going on it. It's safe for the baby and will help you get more rest, too.

I also wound up switching to Nutramigen. It's a little more expensive but helped DS immensely. It's typically for babies with a milk protein allergy, which DS does not have, but it's just easier to digest, in general.

Um, I think we have the same baby!

DD also has gas and is fussy. Tried gas drops and didn't see much of a difference. Am going to try gripe water next and hoping it will have an effect. She's BF and initially had a hard time burping but it seems to be getting a bit easier for her. Sometimes I hear her belly rumbling and I think it's mine but then realize it's hers! Poor thing. She toots quite a bit and we try to do little leg exercises to ease her discomfort but sometimes I feel like none of it is working!

I know how hard it is. Hang in there.

My DD is 10 weeks and gas is a bad word in our house! She has a milk protein allergy so after trying 4 different formulas after BF she is now on allimentium. She also has reflux and my ped wanted us to try rice cereal before putting her on meds. We do 1 tablespoon of rice cereal for 4 ounces of formula and it was the best thing we could have done! Reflux isn't there anymore! As for the gas , gripe water and gas drops didn't help. Bicycle legs does help for her and unfortunately sometimes we just have to wait till it passes. It's horrible but it will get better! Good luck !

We had luck with Gentlease formula. We also used Playtex ventaire bottles. They were great, no air bubbles built up as DD drank and the angle promotes sitting up with is good for the reflux and spitting up. We also put gas drops in every single bottle and use gripe water when needed usually at night with the last bottle.

My dd tested negative for a milk allergy but she had a milk intolerance. No test for it but she obviously could not properly break down dairy. She also had reflux. She had all the symptoms your dd does.

I switched formula to similac alimentum which is hypoallegenic. And she was put on zantac. I hated to put her on meds but its mild and it helped her so much i couldnt leave her in pain
Once i switched formula i had a brand new baby. She started sttn and stopped crying and fussing so much. She had no more digestion issues.

My dd had constant gas, lots of poops, and was generally uncomfortable. She ended up having a milk protein allergy and needed prescription formula. I'd advise you to check this out if her discomfort is that bad. We went to a GI doctor to diagnose.

Sorry, I didn't see that she was already tested foe milk allergy!

Ask your doctor about putting a little rice in the bottle - that helped dd with reflux.

Also, we let her sleep in the rock n play. That thing was a miracle!
