Gassy Baby

My little guy is having such problems with gas and probably acid reflux. When he passes gas from his bottle he gets so red in the face and cries. We've switched his formula to Lacto free and thats helped with the spitting up a bit but not with the gas. He's so uncomfortable he fussed and cried from 5:30 AM to about 4:30 PM today only calming down when eating.

We're due to go back to the Dr again tomorrow and will probably switch his formula for another 72 hour trial to see if he does better.

Did anyone else's newborn go through this?

The doctor also told us to feed him more often but smaller amounts but he's eating every 1 1/2 hours 2 - 3 ounces at a time. If we give him less he screams.

I knew a new baby would be hard but this is killing me. I feel so bad for him and I feel like jumping out a window when I can't comfort him.

Sorry for the long vent but I just don't know what to do.

You can try another type of bottle (many people like Dr. Brown's - I use Playtex Vent-Aire). Baby Mylicon is also helpful. I know it's not easy but it will get easier - keep trying different things until you find something that works.

Try the Dr. Brown bottles. I've been using them since day 4 or so and even though we didn't really have any problems with gassiness before the bottles, I still swear by them. We definitely noticed a difference when we switched from regular bottles to the Dr. Brown's.

I agree - the Dr. Browns were a G O D SEND for me.

Also it sounds like the formula may be the problem also. Def talk to the ped and ask about the soy based formulas - those usually seem to help.

I know - infants are so hard and it hurts when you can't comfort them but I PROMISE you it gets better!!!!

We use the Dr. Brown's with the Twins and they work great!

I am so sorry you are going through this! I took Logan to the emergency room once when he was screaming for 22 hours.. Turned out he had a really bad case of gas! So I know how upsetting it can be and how helpless you feel.
We were using avent and switched to Dr. Brown... Also I use baby mylicon all the time! Mylicon is a miracle!

There's something by DW uses called 'Little Tummies' that she gives the kids when they get bad gas.

Well the doctor switched us to Enfamil Nutramigen. Hopefully this switch will do it. We've been using the Dr. Brown bottles for three days now and they have helped a bit. I guess the next 72 hours will tellif the new formula will help.

We had the same problem with Jake, turned out he had a allergy to the milk based formula. Out doctor also put him on the nutramitgen it made a HUGE difference. He has never had a problem since. I know the formula is very expensive, call your insurance company and tell them that it is a medical necessary that he be on the formula. They have cover it for you and this will save you big $$$$$. I agree the dr. brown bottles are the best I haven't had a problem since using them also Mylicon drops help also I usually put them in her formula and that had help marissa with the gas when she was younger.

Also check with the insurance co. My friend is doing this she doesn't pay for the formula cuz her daughter has to be on it. The doctor called it in and told them it was necessary and they now delive rit to her house which is great since it was hard to find it in the stores.
