Is there any polite way to do this? (bday party related)
My DC bday is 12/13 so I will be mailing invites on Monday to their party. I wanted to invite some people from the mommy and me class we attend on Wednesdays. However this week marked a new "session" of the class and there are some new faces. I am going to hand them out next week and I seriously only want to invite the people I "know". That would leave out 4 new people. Out of these 4, I said hello to 3 of them today. Nothing more. Is there any way I could not invite these people? I would feel terrible if I saw people handing out invitations and my DC did not receive one. I know the answer is that there is no polite way to do this - its either everyone or no one. Who knows - one of these 4 people could be my BFF one day. As it stands I don't even have room for the other 6 - I am doing it mostly out of courtesy in case my DC are invited to their parties.
What should I do!?!

I don't think it's wrong to NOT invite the new people, BUT I would never hand out invites in front of anyone not invited. So if that means catching them out by their car or something, that's the only way I would do it. As you said and I agree, you never know how close you could become with these ladies one day and even though that time is now, I would keep things quiet as not to draw attention to the party coming up.

Thank you. I think if I do decide to include the other 6 I will do it discreetly. I am going to have to pull-off 6 discreet conversations haha! I will be sweating and nervous but thats what has to be done.

Let me preface by saying I'm usually the last person to be offended by something but I don't think it's a big deal. Like the pp said, give them the invite discretely but I wouldn't even go nuts about that. I wouldn't expect to be invited to a party by someone I had just met. Just be sure to be friendly and inclusive as you go forward in the class. If you become friends with some of them over time I don't see why they would hold any resentment about not being invited to a past event.
When DD had her party, I invited two friends she had made at the library. Six months later, I've become very friendly with other moms (and DD their kids) and it's perfectly fine.

I did a little mommy and me music class this summer while I was off with dd. I would not have been upset or offended in any way if the parents who knew each other prior to the start of our session would have invited each other to parties and not me! I'd say just do it discreetly.

This happened in our mommy and me group- and I was the mom left out! I honestly don't mind, these moms have known one another a while before me. But like the others said, being descreet is key. I may not be offended, but I know other moms that would be.

I don't think it's wrong. Like a pp said I would just hand them out quietly. My daughter has 12 kids in her pre-k class and has asked that 3 of them come. We are quietly handing out the invites at pick up. I don't see anything wrong since we will bring a cake to her class for them all to celebrate. At this age she has her "friends" and we just can't add that many extra kids and those other 9 kids have siblings. Her bff is having a birthday next week and she is the only kids from pre-k invited.
