Re: car seat ratings

Safety ratings for carseats are not available to the public unless released by the manufacturer, and I think only two manufacturers release them. What you usually see are ease of use ratings. Consumer reports used to do saftey tests, but had a big thing a year or two ago and they had to retract them as they were doing them wrong.

From what I've learned about carseats, they wouldn't be on the market if they weren't safe. The differences are in the sizes, price, ease of getting installation... stuff like that. I've learned that certain car seats are better than others for certain cars.

They will not answer direct questions on seats - I do not recommend the site when it comes to question like this.

Re: car seat ratings

Consumer Reports made terrible mistakes when testing seats. Some of the best seats on the market were getting panned while some terrible ones were being rated highly.

The best seat is the one you can afford, that works with your car and you can install and use easily. What does that mean? Not every seat works in every car and not every car can accommodate every seat.

That said, all seats are safe. All seats are tested. All that is left is will the seat you like work with your car. As far as ratings, some parents do find some seats better with regard to ease of use than others. Just be careful that someones likes work in your car.

When asking a car seat question, identify the year and make of your car as well as the age and weight of your child. This information will tell if the seat will work with your car - everything else then is secondary.

I can always tell you if it will work.

Re: car seat ratings

Just to add one more thing though... the Uppababy Mesa is an expensive seat and I would rather see you put money into the next seat which would be a convertible seat. Remember, for most parents the infant carrier will be used 10 months give or take two.

I was on this group and honestly these ladies, in my opinion, were *******. I left the group. I couldn't take the way the mods were so rough and closed threads for no reason. I honestly don't suggest this group at all.

Yes some can be rough, especially if you say you're going to FF before 2 years. But I've gotten some great information from that page.

I also left the group this week - when myself or other techs would provide answers they would delete our comments and close threads. I do not consider this group of any value. They will not suggest a specific seat for individual vehicles and will ignore any advice other than theirs.

I guess they're helpful for some and not others. Like I said, I've had my questions re: specific seats for specific cars answered. I've only seen them close threads when people gang up on others for not RF past a year. To each his/her own I guess. I've learned quite a lot from them.
